I started this project a few years ago, and finally, today, the guitar is complete - its an amazing player, sounds unbelievable!

The guitar has a 97 American Standard Body - It is refinished in a custom color a friend and I created, nitro finish - we did some light relicing on the body - the pictures do not do this guitar justice at all - The body is weather checked and looks really cool

The neck is from a 2000 Model American Series - the pickups are Custom Shop Texas Special's with a few mod's in the wiring pattern - the rest of the parts are American Standard

I know a lot of people arent into the relicing process, but this project was a lot of fun

Nice guitar. Good job. I am not into relicing guitars, they'll get dings and dents in them eventually, I'll wait for mine. Congrats.

I was never into it either - I would never pay the money they want for the Custom Shop Relic's - however, this was just a project, it was fun working on it and messing around with it - doing the weather checking was cool! Wish that showed up on the pictures

That's a VERY tasteful amount of relicing. Good job.

I wish I could see the weather checking ...

yea, i wish you all could see the weather checking on it- it turned out really well - we did a few little "secret" things we came up with to accent the checking, which made it look great - however, with the flash and being so light colored, it doesnt show on the pictures - I took several in hopes of it showing up, no luck - im very pleased with how this guitar turned out - friend of mine gave it a professional set up yesterday and it now plays amazing! I played this thing for about 3 hours straight last night - love those pickups!

WOW! Amazing guitar! Love the custom colour, and I'm 50/50 on relicing, it really depends, but you did a really nice job! I love the maple neck too. I love this guitar, I bet it plays even better than the awesome it looks!

Hi asg: Wow, I really like the color scheme. The lacquer seems to exactly match the pickup covers in the pix, with the brighter white of the pickguard in between.

I'd love to know two things, if you would be so kind. What color are the pickup covers - they don't quite look like mint, but I don't know what else they'd be?

And would you care to share your recipe for that paint color? Including the brand names of the opaque pigments, if you feel like telling. Be most interested to know how you achieved that look.

Nice job! Looks like a delicious cake made from white chocolate!

Cheers - C

Hey Ceri - you have a good eye my friend! You are the first one to mention the P/U covers matching the finish - id like to say we accomplished that on purpose, but it was a complete accident - but yes, the P/U covers actually are the "mint" version - They are from Stewart MacDonald - the color is VERY VERY close to that - in person, the guitar has a "mint'ish" hue to it - When I had the rosewood neck on it, it looked more green than it does now - im sure the contrast of the colors is what plays a trick on the eyes - not sure, but putting the maple neck on completely changed the look of this guitar!

To achieve the color, we put a few coats of white primer on the body, then hit it with an "off white" color - we used nitro finish with a very very small amount of AMBER tint, also from Stewart MacDonald - we played around with the nitro a bit on scrap wood before completing the finish - not to mention tons of sanding and buffing in between

I'm a noob at guitar building and stuff, but what does weather checking mean?

asg, the work you did on that guitar is amazing. I'm not one for reliced guitars myself but I would gladly find room for that one. Very impressive.

Very nice, I love late 09's MIA's.

Love the color, nice job on the light relic'ing. But do you think that relic look, mixed with a bright white, obviously new pickguard looks right? I might get an older-lookinig (or used) strat pickguard for that. Same with the pickup covers and/or knobs. That's just me though.

I have a 98 MIA that I changed from this....

... into this...

... you'll notice some natural relic'ing on the headstock that occurred over the last 10 yrs.

Excellent, thank you for that. See, that's why I asked because I'd have never thought of putting amber into the mix to get your "mint green" off white finish. Gotta say, I think it is a really nice one - and I like that it is subtly but distinctly different than any of Fender's whites. Makes that guitar entirely your own.

To respectfully take a different tack than Mr Dgonz I'd suggest the bright white pickguard (which ain't usually my fave) sets off the body and pickup colors very successfully. It works for me!

I'd love to have a go at mixing that color some time, asg: very inspiring. Thank you!

Cheers guys - C
