With all of the US Election excitement, I missed the 32nd Birthday of my first Stratocaster:

It sounds like you remember the Bicentenial, Mr Bill!

I polished it up real good for the pictures. The worn/dinged areas are not in view!

If an older woman is now called a MILF, should I call your guitar a GILP?
Guitar I'd Like to Play?

Happy birthday.

Love,
Todd

It looks like new, after all those years. Do you play it a lot, or is it mostly stored, and you play other guitars?

If you could examine it up close, you'd see it's not like new. The pickguard screws are all black/rusted. There's no gold paint left in the words/numbers on the knobs. There's a big bare patch on the back of the neck that tends to dark and dirty (I clean it up with 0000 steel wool once in a while). The neck is dinged but the body is pretty ding free (it's just got a couple worn spots, but no bare wood, ya gotta love those Thick Skin finishes for longevity!!!).

It was my #1 for a long time. Over the last decade or so, I only used it for gigs (in order to save the frets). I used other guitars for rehearsals etc. Lately, I bought a new American Series and a new Highway One HSS (both 2005's bought in late 2005 and early 2006) to use for gigs because I decided to stop using any vintage gear for the usual crummy gigs.

That Strat is in exceptionally great shape! I had a '73 with the 3 bolt neck plate, micro-tilt, etc..and parted with it a few years ago. It was naturally relic'd from usage though and nowhere near as clean as yours.

I recently cleaned it up. I removed decades of hazy guitar polish and sweat. I also used some rubbing compound to remove some "surface issues" on the body (like where the trem arm came out of the case's pocket and got squished against the body and the case which left marks from the arm's threads).

It's got Graph Tech Saddles (which stopped a string breakage problem with the old original saddles) and '57/'62 Pickups (only two original pickups exist and are in my doubleneck project).

Note that on the picture of the back of the body, you can see a dowel, a small black spot near the bottom. Also, it's a one-piece (heavy) ash body!
