Once you loosen the screws a little and take off the knobs, peel slowly.

Yeah, peel the plastic off slowly. But if you don't take off the knobs, just sorta cut around the knobs. That's what I did and got all of it off. :D

I put a flathead screwdriver under one side of the knob, lever it a tiny amount then do the same on the opposite side of the knob. Then repeat until you can lift the Knob off.

Be gentle when you do it mate.

Solution for getting tight knobs off:

Slip the edge of a rag or old t-shirt under the edge of the knob. Continue doing this clockwise all the way around the knob's circumference. Twist the rag clockwise into a stem and pull straight away from the body, tada! No need to buy that expensive StewMac knob remover!

Yeah, even I don't have one of those!

Two teaspoons is another well known method. One on each side of the knob with the round back of the spoon downwards. Used as levers to gently prise the knob off: keeps from marking the pickguard.

But someone once posted here not to use spoons. I asked why but we never got an answer... Oh well, it has always worked for me.

Cheers - C

I started using the "string trick". Slide string under two sides of the knob and pull up. Presto! It's been working great for me.

How are you feeling, ceri?

Hahaha - absolutely fine, thanks, Orville!

The strange thing, any recurrence will actually be a good thing, so long as it is survived without after effects, because it will signify that it is the less important of the two possible causes. The fact that this has so far only been a one-off event is what gives the folks in the know pause for thought.

And to anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about - don't worry, it ain't that interesting!

Cheers - C
