Hello.

I've just become the very proud owner of a Clapton strat. I love the guitar, and it's a pleasure to play. I do have one question though. How have other owners found it gets on with overdrive / distortion pedals.

I know it has the mid boost, and that is what EC uses to drive the amp. I play it through a SF Vibrolux and I can't set that amp to have a smidge of drive, which would get me to the level of grunt I'm looking for when I engage the boost.

I've tried the guitar with various boost and overdrive pedals, but it doesn't seem to work the way I would like.

It's not a big issue, I can use other guitars with a pedal for more overdriven stuff, but I'm interested in learning from other people's experiences.

Any advice or thoughts would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Phil

I really don’t use the DB boost... Instead I have a distortion pedal (the Boss OS2) I use full time and when I need a boost I have a Blues Driver (Boss BD2) that I hit to give me just that little extra. I have a few guitars that I play and the EC is the only one with the DB boost. So the Blues Driver gives me the most flexibility.

I've owned a first generation EC with Lace Sensors, and now have a CS Stratocaster equipped with the 25-db midboost circuit driving SCN's as opposed to the Fender Noiseless.

I wouldn't attempt to equate anything you can put together from a dealer with what Clapton's stage setup is all about. We know his amps by name, but we also know they've been tweaked.

The boost increasing the midrange signal which was his goal when the circuit was developed over 20 years ago. He was looking for a thicker sound.

You're not exquisitely clear about what your're not getting. Remember, you're feeding more midrange signal to the amplifier as you engage the boost circuit. The pickup combinations you choose will also affect the character of your signal.

It sounds like you're trying to get just a bit of edge with the boost at full signal but you might find that, with this amplifier, it is necessary to back down the boost signal and work more with the other variables which color the sound.
