Speaking from the point of view of one of the ancients, who remembers when there was only one Stratocaster to be had, today's buyers can aspire to a fine instrument at an affordable price.

When I bought my first Strat in 1978 at Manny's in New York City, my choices were White, Black, or Natural finish. I play Lefty and I think all the guitars had a rosewood neck. They would have to have ordered maple for me.
That's it for options. At least Fenders came Lefty.
I believe the guitar cost $350. Does that sound right? What do you suppose it's worth now? Yes, I still have it - it's my "baby".

Love,
Tddd

$350 sounds low for a new Fender in 1978. They cost $400-$450 in the early 1960's. That's not MSRP. That's out the door. List price was higher.

Manny's always had good prices and my mom is a musician. Maybe I got a deal? I'll go look to see if I still have my receipt.

Love,
Todd

I suppose for the MIM crowd it's a day of celebration.
The noticeable lack of "Made in Mexico" and the MN serial number on the front of the headstock lets them conceal their shame. I can't think of any other reason to do it. FMIC must have got enough whiney emails and phone calls that they decided to make a change.

So much for many of the "proud" MIM owners who proclaim 'I bought my MIM for the tone', and 'it feels as good as any MIA Fender I played'. Face it boys, you bought MIM because it was less expensive and you didn't have to deal with it saying "Squier" on the headstock. Now it will be even easier to pretend that you bought the real deal.

To all those on the Forum who actually did purchase a Made in Mexico Fender because you liked it better than it's Made in America counterpart, none of the above "rant" applied to you.

It pains me to see the MIA owners who cringe, coming to a sad self-realization that they grossly overpaid. They will often sadly lament to themself:

"Wow. With a small investment of Tex Mex pickups and a hard-shell case, MIM owners are getting better tone and sustain than me .... at about half what I paid. No, that can not be right. There must be something more in my MIA that I have missed. What could it be? The tremelo? No, I rarely use mine. The neck? Yes, the neck!!! MIM owners must be coveting my neck..."

Don't worry mthorn00: In the end, it is only money. And ... we really do covet your guitar's neck (wink, wink)

Very nice looking indeed.

Can't we all just get along? I mean, really, how far from Fullerton is Mexico, anyway? At least we're not all hurting our backs playing Gibson's.

Love,
Todd

PS All my Fenders are MIA

The one on the back is called the Tummy Cut and the one on the front is called the Forearm Cut.

Hey Stratheads-

I like the new logo...has a nice retro look to it. I hadn't noticed it before.
