Hi, How do you satisfy your search for tone...or can you? I have 5 USA Strats all with different pickups. Some Strats have fender pickups, some Dimarzio, some Bill Lawerence, some with EMG pickups. Some of my Strats have H/S/S Pickup configuration, some have S/S/S Pickup configuration, some have H/H pickup configuration.

A few years ago I got away from effects pedals and strated using rack effects processors. When jammin' with the band I use a power amp, my processor and I play through 2 Mesa 4-12 Cabinets.

I'm a tone junkie!! I still work on my tone, but I have gotten better results since I started using effects processors. Each one of my guitars has it's own saved program.

What do you do to satisfy your TONE hunger? Keep Jammin'- #1StratMan

Man it sounds like you have alot of toys to play with. I personally don't like all those things, especially the rack stuff. I'd rather just stick to the ole' guitar through a combo amp setup.

I have one tone and pretty much stay with it.

For me,
The quest for tone is all about the quest! It doesn't matter what guiter you're playing on or what amp your playing through. It's about the quest.
Hell I go from every stomp box I can find, to a digital processor and make a U-turn and just use a guitar cable!

I use a Tubescreamer and a '65 DRRI. Satisfies my hunger..... for the time being. And it's simple.

Formula for tone.
1 Stock Strat + 1 Class A Tube Amp = 1 happy player.

For me tone is an EJ strat, BBE sonic maximizer, chorus, and a nice tube amp. I don't need anything else.

Tone, to me, is a never ending quest. I suppose I will seek the ideal tone for the rest of my days.

My latest adventure into tone involves an old hardtail strat. I drilled out the bridge plate to accept a set of compensated brass Tele saddles & turned those long Tele saddle screws all the way up. Next I filed shallow grooves in the nut on the treble side of each existing groove. this allowed the strings to be set high enough off the frets so I can't hit 'um while slidin'
that hunk of glass all over the neck. Oh yeah, I also raised the pickups up
a bunch to get back some volume. Good Stuff !! Watch out Little Red Rooster !!

I play direct to an Apple G5 filled with Logic Pro 7 via a Protools Digi002
rack. There's more tones on there than you can imagine !!!

Live, I play straight thru a Blues Jr relic (with the Jensen P12R).

My tone Quest is to get the most from the gear i have.
i'm not in to processed sound.
i have 1 main guitar and 1 back up.
1 amp Vibro king and a back up HR 4/10
and the 4 basic food groups of pedles.
Wah, ts 808, DS1, delay, Chours.

With these tools i can get a ton of tones.
i am constantly tring to improve my tone but i don't think i need to run out and buy anything untill i'm sure i have exausted the tools i have.
and that ain't happen.

enjoy the Quest

I believe 90% of true tone is in the fingers. My wife always says that it does not matter what guitar/amp/pedal etc I play with...she can always tell it's me. Just like when Ted Nugent played through Van Halen's rig and was disappointed because it still sounded just like Ted Nugent.

With that said, I am a tone junkie as well but toys will only get you so far. I went from a massive Mesa rack system with processors and tons of gear all the way down to a Hot Rod Deville 4x10. I am much more happy with the HRD. Toss in a set of JJs and tweak the bias out of the nursing home and into the hell fire and it's a tone montster. 99% of the time I plug straight in. The rest I use a true bypass wah.

It's about the journey not the destination.
