I was looking into gettin a pedal to use with my MIM strat and my Vibro Champ. I was looking into eaither the TS-9 or the Bad monkey. I want to be able to play stuff like SRV, Hendrix, bb king, albert king, buddy guy, led zeppelin, and the doors. Basically anything blues and classic rock. any advice would be appreciated.

I faced the same decision about a month ago. Im not big on effects but do own a few (crybaby wah,bbe soul vibe, dunlop fuzz, boss bluss driver)

I didnt like the digitech bad monkey. The ts-9 and 808 reissue are nice, but the blues driver did it for me (and was 20$ cheaper).

Try em all out, Good luck!

never been a fan of the blues driver unless its moded^^^

Love my TS9 , had it less than a week (lmao) but i am already getting some sexy tones on it. (I play mostly John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix and write my own blues stuff) Even though it is really good for blues tones , if the moment has came to play something heavy I find it can be good to just boost up the distortion on my amp.

Is the amp a tube amp (sorry I don't know much about the amp  ). I've heard tube screamers don't sound that great without tube amps, but that's just from what I heard.

well a overdrive pedal, is just simulating a tube amp breaking up (I think im right at least). I find overdrives to sound better when used on the clean channel of a amp. If you can check it out, watch texas flood from srv live at austin city limits.....best use of a tubescreamer ever.

thanks for the quick responses guys.

your right cocojumbo78 ,that video of stevie really shows off how great the tubescreamer is.

mayercaster i was just wondering if its possible to get a good tone for red house by jimi hendrix with the ts-9. my amp has awesome reverb built into it i just want to get that screaming blues tone.

3-tone my amp is a tube amp. it has a 12Ax7 preamp tube and a single 6v6 tube also. and i've heard that tubescreamers don't sound good with solid states too.

Thanks!

It's a little pricey, but I recommend the Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet. Very transparent overdrive - sounds like a cranked up tube amp. It also has a second footswitch for boost with it's own gain setting. Most people love the clean tone they get from thier Fender amps, but want to add a little grit or grind. But, the big problem is, when you step the stomp box, your tone now sounds like your stomp box. In my opinion, this problem has never been totally solved. Back to the Fulltone, this has been the best overdrive pedal I've ever heard and it really retains the sound of your guitar amp. The TS-9 and all it's clones is a little too fuzzy, especially when you turn up the drive. The Fulltone isn't fuzzy; it just sounds like a great tube amp cranked to 10. Go to fulltone.com and check out Mike Fuller's stuff.

The TS-9 is much better value. The Bad Monkey isn't the best, I'll assure you. Also, you can never go wrong with a Dunlop Wah. 8)
