I dont know if there is a "best"...it comes down to preference. I own a deluxe players strat and am currently shopping for a neck for my highway one body.
If i had the money id get a 62 reissue....and a 57.....
The higher end mim strats are nice, and the mia ones are...well,there MIA,so you know your getting something good.

Do you have a guitar that you're playing right now? If so, you're so close ($200) to an American Standard Stratocaster, that I think I'd hold off and save just that little bit more, and get that. It would be a lifetime guitar and well worth that little bit more of a wait. And then you would prevent that "Gee, I sure wish I would've gotten a.............." later on. Anyway........just a thought. It's the way that I think about such things.

Yeah I definitely agree with you. Buy a guitar that you won't regret buying later.

I agree, if you can come up with another $200 go for the American Standard. As for amps, any Fender tube amp will sound good with it. I like a Pro Jr, Deluxe or Pro Reverb.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Your price point puts you in the MIM range (Made in Mexico). Members of the Forum's MIM club will be at you in droves. The Classic Player seems to be the favorite in that category. If $800 is your max, you might want to consider the MIM Standard which usually retails around $399 and perhaps a Fender Frontman amplifier. That will get you in the door.

Don't let anybody tell you that you're stuck in Mexico. At $800 you clearly can get a Highway 1, just like the other people have been telling you.

Play as many as you can in the store. The one that feels the best and sounds the best is the right model. I own the HWY 1 Stratocaster SSS. It was the best bang for my money. Basically, once I picked it up and played it, I knew it was meant for me.
