I just bought a stratocaster for my son for Christmas and I know nothing about guitars. Could someone tell me what I have purchased?

The serial number is N211701. It's teal green metalic with flames. I paid $400.00 for it at a pawn shop. Is this a good deal? also, any idea how old it is?

Thanks for your help.

It's a 1992. N is for '90's. The first number after that letter is for the one's column.
Sounds like a great price to me.
To help your son learn to play, go onto your computer and look up Tabulature (TAB) sites. He can look up his favorite songs. It's the easiest way to learn. And have him learn E-Type and A-Type bar chords.
What I said above may look like a foreign language right now, but it will make sense fast.

Love,
Todd

PS My son is 16 and he has a Strat too.

Thank you so much for the information! What would you say the retail price on it would be?

I'll go to that web site and print that info for him. I'm just not sure I can wait until Christmas to give it to him.

Thanks again!

Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1992 - 1993

Giving a retail price without knowing the exact model would be impossible.

robinrose,
I have discovered that the knowledgable folk on this forum (not me!) can identify nearly anything if you provide them with pictures..

Thanks! I have already received a lot of valuable info. And everyone is so nice. I'm just a mom and completely lost when it comes to musical instruments.

Thank you!

Teal green metallic with flames???? Where do I get one!!! As you might be able to tell, I go for the non-standard paint colors.

I have a teal green metallic American myself, but no flames. Bought new in 2001. Add me to the list asking for pictures.

$400 is a fine price for a usable but not collectable American Stratocaster. My local pawn shop is smarter than that. They check the internet and price accordingly. You can get a little bit of a deal but nothing big.

In the mists of memory Fender sometimes issues limited editions and special runs, or a dealer such as Guitar Center, Sam Ash or Wildwood will enable such an order...or...the previous owner customized the original.

One of our historians may come up with some details on that, and a photo would help. In addition, if you can find a reputable guitar tech, have the instrument set up properly.

Any further questions are always welcome.

Doc
