I've been a les paul player for the last 6 years. Today, I saw a beautiful Mexican Strat (creamy white, with maple fretboard), made in 2003 at the pawn shop. I couldn't stop staring at her. I played it a little, and something just connected and I brought her home.

I don't know anything about this guitar. I don't know what kind of pickups it has, if most people replace the stock pickups, what impedence the pots have, you know, the nuts and bolts on the guts of the guitar and materials used.

Any info for my as a new Fender owner would be appreciated.

Thank you.

well, look at the serial number on the headstock and look it up here to give you a year of production, then you can go from there and find better info

I think the non-US made Strats are great intro guitars for someone switching over like yourself, or for beginning guitarists.

The only upgrades you may need to make are the pickups and/or the wiring, as the major difference between US Strats & their foreign counterparts is the electronics.

Rock on.

I purchased a near identical Mexican strat only mine has a rosewood fretboard. My only conceren was that the stock pickups had a mid range drop off in sound which was easily correctable with a pre-wired pickguard from Carvin Guitars. Unfortunately, the Fender rep I spoke with was not as helpful since I would have preferred to stay stock with Fender. The pickups are 2 single coils and a humbucker and what a difference. I just had the guitar professionally setup for intonation and string height by a local music store guitar tech and I'll match mine to more expensive models for playability and sound any day.
These guitars should be factory set but a little tweaking goes a long way to playability. Check out www.carvin.com for pickguard / pickup options - you will not be disapointed.

If you just fell in love with it why shread it? Play it as it is until you hear all it has to offer and are sure you really need to change anything.
If you always have used humbuckers then the strat may seem noisy to you. I shield all of my single coil guitars with self-stick copper foil inside the pickup cavity & under the pickguard ( you can get it at Stewmac.com) surrounding the pickup cavity in copper foil goes a long way toward quieting the strat & it's pretty cheap to do. Make sure you wire the foil to ground.

Welcome to the world of Fender....it's a better place to be !!!!!!!!!!

Your guitar probably has 250K pots in it.

I put a Hot Rails in the bridge of one of my American Standards, and I couldn't be happier.
