It's all about personal taste. If you like the SCNs and the other features, I suggest getting the Deluxe.

I like the case for the standard with the TSA locks the Deluxe doesn't include it but if you want one, you can just buy one. :D

Thanks a million...these are really very good points ! I hope i'm not too heavy asking you three questions
1-How much different are SCN's compared to Vintage noisless (EC model) and\ or cermaic noiseless (JB model)in your opinion.
2-What kind of "work" do you suggest besides volume control to 8, changing tone pots ? would changing the height of the pups make a difference. I would expect them to sound much louder and mellower if they were higher and more stratty and maybe thinner if lower (don't want to play with them until i decide to keep it or go to a signature model).
3-What does the filter do, unfortunately I couldn't see anything on Youtube. Will keep on trying.
Cheers

Hisham
1 scn's are way sweeter and more versatile than vintage noiseless. I have VN's on my other strat and have had a love hate relationship with them since i put them in. They are a very artificial sounding pickup, almost like plugging a electro acoustic into your hifi. I wish i'd waited till the shop had scn's in stock instead of getting VN's. I installed the clapton boost some weeks after i put the VN's in to calm their unusual sound a bit. I'm currently on the 'hate' part of the cycle with that guitar. As for the hot noiseless, ive no experience of em.
2, i found the difference in height plays a great part in these pickups. with the stratiest tones being next to the guard, unfortunatley they do sound weak so low, so i suggest the volume control option.
3, the Qfilter acts like a presence control from a valve amp, but its on your guitar therefore before the pre-amp of your amp and way before the power amp presence control. Turn it up and it makes a more zingy hard hitting sound. Turn it down and you get a warmer sound. I've not used one but saw it on youtube and got all kinds of ideas on how to use it. As for most of Bill's stuff it looks like he's taken a existing idea, in this case the TBX tone idea and perfected it.

Rumor has it that the American "Deluxe" is as "Wazoo" as you can get without losing your mind and buying from the Custom Shop.
They are definately the prettiest Strats. I don't know if they perform any better than the American Standards though.

Yes, thats exactly what Fender customer service told me today, they said that the Deluxe is their "top of the line" and that it could be made of 2-3 pieces of wood (not two as is rumored) and that the Artists signature models are not necessarily better quality. Custom shop guitars, he said, are finer on the details.

As a result i decided to keep my deluxe - i had intended to pick up the Clapton instead - but bought a loaded pick-guard with CS69's in them for the vintage strat sound.

I'll just slot in the new gear and be able to use the SCN's as well as the S-1 switch interchangeably.
Cheers

Thanks a million for your help... I'll go with the Q filter and keep the deluxe ... so do I need two, one for each tone control?

This link shows it only on one tone pot

Thanks and cheers

I'm pretty sure its 1 per guitar. It looks like 1 tone is a master the other is the filter.

Thanks Nikininja

I sent Becky Lawrence an email to see what she recommends .. but I sure would like to have that boost. On another board sometime ago CAFeathers got in touch with her for a similar reason I hope he has something to say.

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... p?t=231047

I was playing around with the Pickup height and I kept the treble side of the middle pickup a little higher than recommended height, I was pleasantly surprised that it gave me a relatively nice vintage stratty sound at the second and fourth position of the selector. At first I thought it was the eq, but after I turned it off it was still there.

The quest continues.
Cheers

Another vote for the AD strat! I've had mine since July and can't put it down. A little tinkering with the pickups and it's the best playing, best sounding strat I've ever owned/played! To be more exact, get the HSS model; the S1 switching really negates the bridge sc on the guitar. It's so much more versatile than a coil cut/tap switch, and blows a single coil into the ditch for those times you need the extra crunch of a humbucker.
