Hi there guys. A quick question- How much would you pay for a 1978 Fender Strat in cream? I have the chance to buy one for £500. I know that 70s strats arent considered that great, due to the CBS Takeover, but hey.. This guitar is 13 years older than I am!!
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
PS= Just bought a 1988 Strat plus.. Brilliant Guitar!

If it's original it's a good price.
As to quality: I have a pair of '77 Strats. One is great, one ain't that good. So I hope you've played the guitar. Buy it if it sounds and plays the way you want.
Otherwise, wait until you find one you love.

Love,
Todd

Cheers Todd. Don't worry, I will certainly play it before I buy it. After all, it is for playing, not for hanging on the wall for decoration

On an old guitar, you gotta check the condition of the frets.

A fret job to make it playable can really add to the cost.

Righy oh, I shall check to see if the frets are in good condition or not. TBH, my guitar teacher would be able to do a full refret for a pretty good price.

I dont really fancy paying £150 for a refret in London!!

Exactly. Play all you can. And, when in doubt, turn it up!
Enjoy the guitar (hope the frets are smooth).

Love,
Todd

If it were me, for that price, I'd buy it just to resell it for as much as I could. With the proceeds, I'd buy the best new American one I could.

That's a very good price if all original. I also have a 78 but it had some work done, that's my favorite one to play right now. I actually got used to the large headstock and bullet rod.

Play before paying. If it sounds good to you...buy it.

That '78 is in one of the most popular colors.

It commands a bit of a premium in the vintage market (mainly because of Yngwie I guess).

hey there guys, Here's some pics of the "78 strat. Condition wise, its certainly not the best. But I still think it looks awesome.
PS- the seller says he will remove the synth.
