Hey just for a bit of advice, I'm thinking about buying a Classic Series 60's Strat and customizing it to be like Janick Gers (Iron Maiden) Stratocaster with the JB Jr's and that bit on the body tht's been sanded down! Do you think I should make it? Cos I think it would be cool! All opinions welcome!

Hello my friend,

Very good idea. A very nice guitar. Do it if you have the time and the know how. Before you do just check out the 70's strat he's got. A cool, natural finish 70's strat with a small circular union jack flag sticker on the body. It's a very beautiful instrument. I'm really sorry but i can't find the poster that was hanging on my wall when i was younger. I tried to google for a picture of Janick with that guitar but i couldn't find anything. Maybe sb else in here could help. Anyway check this out first but make this Janick-Yours signature strat !!! Up the Irons !
Greetings from Greece...

That is an awesome tribute, very well done.

That is a nice natural finish Strat, I think I prefer the black one though, natural finishes arn't really my thing.

Yeah I'll put pictures up when it's done but the thing is I dunno how long that will be because I still need to buy the Classic 60's Stratocaster first. So it could be months, just to let you know guys.

If YOU think it's cool, then it's cool.
I'm a huge fan of putting better pickups in a guitar. None of mine had the same pickups in them that I bought them with.

Tearing up the finish . . . I think that should be left to "honest" play wear. But that's just me.

If you do it, post some pics

The bit I was talking about sanding down, on his black Strat Janick sanded a kinda plectrum shaped bit in the body just above the briddge at an angle, it is like wear and tear. I'm not gonna add all the scrapes and stufff, tht will come naturally but I will be sanding the plectrum shaped bit in it, I'll defo post pics up when its done.

Thanks for the advice though.

Yeah man, sounds cool, janick does have an awesome sound... have to agree with that other guy though, let the little "imperfections" come naturally. Looks more beliveable that way, but hey, that's just me...

By the way i have considered putting a JB jr. on my strat too, any good?

Me too.

I'd also like to see some pics of Gers and the original guitar.

It's not as famous as Dave Murray's strat, that's for sure.

Janick's original strat was a '66 smal headstock and as far as I remember he uses hto rails at the neck and the bridge.

Of course the guitar needs to be black and with rosewood fingerboard, I also heard that he has a scalloped fretboard, but very shallow, not ala malmsteen.

Jb Jr's are excellent, very high output pick ups and act like humbuckers, if go on Seymour Duncan's website you can hear sound bites of them.

I know I'm letting the dings come naturally but he has a large area of his current Strat which has cleary been sanded into a Plectrum like shape just above his bridge.

I'm paying tribute to his current Strat which has JB Jr's in it rather than hotrails, I'm gonna put hotrails in my current 2003 MIM Fender Strat.

I will be posting pictures even if it takes ages to get the money to fund it.
