Hi Guys

The tone difference with guitars with extra frets comes from the location of the neck pu. On some guitars, to make space for extra frets, they have to move the neck pu toward the bridge. Looking at my 08 Am STD, I do not believe that was the case, I think there was room for it already. Also, they extend the neck to add the 22nd fret, they did not change the fret spacing. This concern usually has to do with 24 fret guitars, I don't think the strat has this issue

If by "Standard" Strat you mean the garden variety MIM Standard Strat I'd suggest the Highway 1. Sure the pickups are a bit hotter in my experience, but that just makes it easier to get good fuzz tone going. Plus they are American made which is always a good thing.

I own a 2004 Highway 1 Texas Tele and it kicks butt.
My fav axe is my 06 American Standard (modded to HHH)
I also play a "real deal" 1974 Stratocaster back from when all Fender gutars were American made.

Both the American Standard and the MIM standard are 25.5 scale ( length of string nut to bridge) can't do that with a longer neck on one unless you put the bridge in a different place which it is not. Plus a Strat SSS pickguard An 11-hole replacement pickguard for American, American Standard, Hot Rod and Deluxe Series Stratocaster guitars (U.S.A.); and Standard, Deluxe and '70s Stratocaster guitars (Mexico). shows how the pickups are in the same place or they would require different guards. Also the pickups in the Hwy1 are MIM it is said that the HWY1 is 15% mim according to what Fender itself says.

Sorry, I think we misunderstood each other here. When I said they extended the neck, I really meant the fretboard for the 22nd fret. You can't add length to the neck itself, but frets can be added without increasing the lenght of the neck. I know they are 25.5 scale, and as I said I do not think fender moved the pu, which you just proved as well. But on some guitars this is what happens, but not on the strat, as they simply added a fret by extending the fret board, not the neck

My opinion is that I do not like the satin nitro finish. For me, I would not want to buy a new car with faded paint and no shine, I sure don't want to with a guitar either. Other than that, it's great

I did not no that which Custom Shop pickups are they? I no there are Custom Shop pickups that use the alnico III magnets but they are like the CS No casters and Vintage Tele's, CS Tele 62's but the Strat 62's are 5's.
