Oh sure. I don't think they're any deception at all. I'm just saying that you can have what can legally be called an "american" product that isn't really fully american.

Even on a MIA Standard, I can bet not every single part and component is 100% american made. Some of the metal stamped parts, the electronics, other little things, etc.

yeah fully m8. you right actually, a sticker dont mean sheeed!!

just read on kelly gear reviews. that fender claim the highway 1 is 85% usa made!

Hey Stratheads;

I have had the same dilemma- Hwy 1 or American. I own an MIM and have played several Hwy 1's - I like all three. The trouble with me has been that I want Texas Specials- I love their sound and what I can do with them. I have decided to bite the bullet and save for a SRV (I love the neck)-

You really have to go out and test drive them. Plug them into a simular amp as your own and play .... If the Git Fiddle talks to you- then take it home. Only you can tell.

We Stratheads here have an opinion on everything. Thats what makes this place so much fun. Just Go for it and show us pictures on what you decide.

You could just put Texas Specials on that MIM. It's not going to sound much different that the SRV, through the same amp anyway.

Hi all,
I own an early 2000 American Delux Ash Strat. Blond, maple fretboard. GREAT GUITAR. However, while the noiseless pu's are toneful and wisper quiet, they are not very powerful.
I'm considering getting either a Highway One or a Standard Strat. I'm looking for more of an early 70's, Hendrix sound with no effects.
Any thougths?
Thanks,
Ralph

Play them both on an amp most like yours. See which one you like the best. I do not play Hendrix-type music on my HWY 1, but I can get a wide variety of tones.

Pretty much any single coil strat will get a good Hendrix tone, it's the amp, the fuzz, etc that tweak that sound more than a different variation of the same fender strat.

Getting a different fender strat with different pickups, but on the same rig isnt' going to sound much different at all, so don't expect it to. Look at the rig more if you want a very different tone.

Highway 1...I encourage you to look around a play a few different models etc. You owe it to yourself to explore many options when buying a guitar especially a Strat. I hate to say it but....I have walked into GC or other guitar stores specifically wanting a certain model, but walked out with something completely different that I wasn't even looking at because of what I heard regarding all the different tones! Rock on man!

I bought an 2004 american standard about a year ago and now I am looking to get a backup. I really like the highway one with three single coils. Other than the satin finish and large headstock, an important feature to me is the BIG frets. I'm pretty rough on my guitar and it needs a refret after only a year but I can't be without it for the 2 week turnaround time. This is why I am looking at the highway one strats (single coil) for a backup guitar: Big Frets and great finish.

I own a HWY 1 SSS Stratocaster. They sound great. It was not hard to get use to this guitar. In fact I was more comfortable playing on it after 30 minutes playing in the store than my ESP that I owned for over a year.

I personally would go with the American Std. You're starting out with what I think is a better made guitar. You can always mod the pickups and tone pots. My problem with the Highway 1 is
1) I dont like the big headstock
2) Like the previous writters said, the pickups on them have a different tone, less straty, which is why we all worship at the temple of Stratocaster
3) The most important for my playing, the Highway 1s have the Super Jumbo frets. I like to really squeeze the chords when Im playing, and the bigger frets make that more difficult, and if you use too much pressure on the string, it will cause the note to go sharp, kind of like scalloped fingerboards.
That being said, no one can tell you whats right for you. But if you own an American Deluxe now, I dont think you'll end up being happy if you go to the HW1

That is totally wrong. I get Hendrix tone majorly on my Highway One.
I also use Hendrix Strings by Dean Markley and a Marshall or vintage tube amp from Epiphone.

I have an '02 Highway One. It does not have the big headstock or the super jumbo frets. And it has vintage style pickups - great 70's strat sound as far as I am concerned....

Love this guitar!!

all Fender signature artise with Hendrix influence
opt for 21 frets Strat
say Malmsteen, say SRV
so if you are into Hendrix
seriously consider for the MIM Standard

I don't think the extra fret will affect the tone at all. They add the fret at the bottom, lengthening the fretboard, not the neck. On 24 fret necks, the neck does get longer, affecting the tone, and tension on the strings. The only reason all of those players play 21 fret, is because when they got those guitars, 21 frets were all Fender offered. I firmly believe if 22 fret were offered back then, that's what they would play. The only American Series strats that have 22 are the HW1, Am Std, and Am Dlx, all the American reissues have 21, because the guitars they are copying only had 21 back then. I wondered about the extra lenth myself of the 22's, so I researched it, and they said they didnt have to change the neck scale at all.
