yesterday, when i got home, i was playing 2 songs.
1st was the thrill is gone. several variations and settings.
2nd eric clapton old love.
however, still cant get my singing and playing to come out naturally.
i rarely look at tabs, i mainly look at them to establish a key. then i go by ear. its a work in progress.

anyway, ive noticed i can improvise a whole of alot better.
mainly, when i reach "the zone" in what ever i play.

sorry that was in my mind all day.

I feel your pain. When I was a teenager I played lead guitar & sang backup in a 3-guitar classic rock cover band. After a few odd years off & only playing at home I have now started a power trio in which I play guitar and sing lead. It's tough sometimes to do both and play the guitar like I would like. :( As far as a favorite song to play, that changes almost daily, but here are a few:
Voodoo Child (Slight Return)-Jimi Hendrix
Cissy Strut - The Meters (Also search Cissy Strut John Mayer on youtube)
Love & Happiness (Al Green)
Weird Huh?

Crossroads (Clapton Style) is also on my set list. And dig this, I occasionally play music with an older guy who played music in CA back in the sixties, he even filled in on guitar with Ike & Tina Turner! One of his favorites we play is Sweet Home Chicago!

Hang in there! :P

He's showed me chords that you couldn't imagine!
He has a unique style. He plays without a pick and uses a lot of moveable chord shapes. I played a lot of blues & blues/rock before I met him, but I have picked up a lot of motown rhythm since meeting him. I also have noticed Hendrix's style has a lot of motown in it (listen to "Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland"). But that's only fitting since he played with both Ike & Little Richard before going to England and getting famous.

Jimi also played with Curis Knight. After Jimi's success, the company re-issued some of their recordings as "Jimi Hendrix Plays, curtis Knight Sings." Can you believe anyone in the music business would actually attempt to capitalize on someone else's success (sarcasm intended.)

my current fave that i cant stop playing is a tongue in cheek country song of my own 'i love my horse, but the judge said i shouldnt'. My fave cover is 'Driving south' by curtis knight and hendrix. Knight was a good sax player despite his failings as a human being.

I've been getting a tendency to play "Ace of Spades" every time I pick up the ol' fiddle any more. I play it an awful lot it seems.
