Should I get the HSS or not? What are the positives/negatives of each and can anyone explain the S-1/Tex-Mex/Diamondback?
Thanks,

Hello Absinthe52,

I'm into the s/s/s probably cause thats
what I grew up with{it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks}.
Occasionally I get to play a humbucker equipped strat
and they may have an edge on versitility
but traditional pickup seems to be where it's at for me.
Best of luck on your choice.

Cheers.

I am SSS too. Just used to solo on single coil bridge PUs.

I love the SSS myself as well. Classic strat sounds, which is why I like strats in the first place.

If you decide you want a more humbucker-ish sound, you can always slap a single-sized JB Jr or Lil 59 in there with a splitter to more it more versatile and quieter with hi-gain.

Still, I could play anything with a stock MIA strat without "needing" it to be more versatile. A good tube amp is key though too.

It's nice if you're able to afford a SSS Strat and maybe a LP or SG, like a sweet white SG custom. You know with the 3 PUs.

This is totally my opinion, but whenever I see a Humbucker'd strat, I think "That's not a proper strat"... ;)

Play both. Plug them in, if you like the way one sounds, buy it. Depends what you are playing. I have a SSS configuration on my HWY 1. I love it. I have toyed with the thought of changing to a HB pup, but I am happy with what I have for now.

in my opinion the h/s/s/ is so much more versatile and sounds so much better to me but three singles still sounds amazing and gives it its own sound

Since everyone else is chiming in...

In my very humble opinion, any one's first Strat should be an SSS. Then make the next git a Gibson or an HSS. If you really think you need an HSS as your first Strat, you may want to seriously consider a Les Paul or SG (preferably Gibson -- I am not a big Epi fan). Anything else just seems a little backwards. For me, my other git is an awesome Gibson SG. The beauty of the SG & Strat combo for me is I don't need either of them to "kinda do what the other one does". They are both verrrry different, which makes guitar playing a lot of fun for me.

Just my $0.02 (soon to be $0.01 based on today's stock prices....)
