I think that I tried almost all of them, Johnson, Clapton, Malmsteen, Buddy Guy, Beck...

My favourite is the early Malmsteen, the one patterned after his '56 sonic blue and yellowed nitro finish.

Two weeks ago I'd have said the Eric Clapton. But having had the chance to play the Eric Johnson a week or so ago, that one all the way. I loved the pickups, loved the 12inch radius fretboard, even the maple neck (im a rosewood guy by nature) The only complaint I had about it was the gloss neck back, which I was told here that a little 000 steel wool would address pretty well.

mine happens to be the eric clapton.

I share the same love for the Eric Clapton strat. I have owned one for six years now and have played it so much the frets are showing some serious wear. It is hands down the most versatile guitar I have ever played. :D

you own 1, do you own the one with lace sensors or vintage noiseless?
since its been 6yrs?
i love that strat(blackie), however i think i like the scn better than the vintage noiseless. ive played both. then again, certain days i like my am std more than my hwy 1, others its vise versa.

The old model with the Lace sensors has a pronounced V neck while the newer model with the noiseless pups has a shallower V. As I said before I prefer the Lace pups, but I also prefer the shallower V.

Mine has the vintage noiseless pu's. I first tried one with lace sensors and I loved the way it felt and I loved the mid-boost/tbx controls. The lace sensors were ok, especially since they were quiet, but they didn't respond like real pu's, especially when you rolled off the volume, so I had one with vintage noiseless pu's ordered for me. I wouldn't take anything for this guitar, and believe me several have offered. By the way, I opted for the pewter.

I always wanted the original EC with the Lace Sensors in pewter which was the color Eric was playing the first time I saw a pic of his new guitar. I'm thinking the Buddy Guy and Eric Johnson models would be my next choices.

Just out of interest whats your views on the Clapton neck. It seems to be a love/hate thing.

It is a love thing for me. If you like to play a lot of bar chords or if you play with your thumb behind the neck you will probably hate it. I play more of a wrap-around style with my thumb which allows me to use my thumb to fret or mute the big E and this neck couldn't be more comfortable for me. If you are considering one try it first.

I remember years ago there were some Iron Maiden Signature strats.. they looked kind of cool .. what ever happened to them ??? :)

They were MIJ, black, with hot rails, JB Jr.,mirrored pickguad and Floyd.

Played one, nice, but I already had a black strat. :?

Any comments? Tone wise? Can you get a classic strat tone out of it? Sharon Slickis
