Hey Guys,
I think that my favorite solo would be from Slash off Use Your Illusion 2 on the song Estranged. If you guys get a chance check out the song, its got some killer work on it.

Strat-Cat

4:46 into Prince's "Pink Cashmere". Not blazingly fast or technically challenging, just a very tasteful solo.

Mine is the solo for superterroizer by Black Label Society. One of the lines before the solo is “You’re just a pinball inside my machine” …if you don’t believe Zakk Wylde when he says that just wait a few seconds for the solo….it will prove it

Mine is John Frusciante's solos in "Scar Tissue" that he played in Poland or the intro to "Californication" at Slane Castle.

Jimmy Page's solo in "Stairway to Heaven" is definately the most classic in my mind, but, Carlos Santana's rendition of "Samba Pa Ti" which is itself a 5 minute solo is incredible especially towards the end when it really gets down into a samba. Timeless. The ultimate though is the dueling solos put forth by Al DiMeola and Paco DeLucia in "Mediterranean Sundance" off of DiMeola's "Elegant Gypsy" album. That is incredible guitar playing boys. On par with that but not quite is the bass work that Stanley Clark creates in the song "School Days" off his album of the same name. If you haven't ever checked out the DiMeola or Clark albums do so. You won't be dissappointed by the virtuosity displayed on each album.

Hi All:

This is always a great discussion topic! After giving it plenty of thought, I can narrow it down to a top 6 (listed here from 6 to 1):

6. Mick Ralphs (Bad Company) - 'Feel Like Makin' Love'
5. Frank Zappa - 'Zoot Allures'
4. Edie Hazel (Funkadelic) - 'Maggot Brain'
3. Martin Barre (Jethro Tull) - 'Aqualung' (I can't believe that this one is almost never on lists of this sort!)
2. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - 'Comfortably Numb'
1. Any of the solos on Rory Gallagher's 1974 'Live Irish Tour' album...If you haven't listened to this album yet, do so NOW!

Thanks for the food for thought.
-Ed
