(To Red Scare) Yes, absolutly, Jimi is the best. On the days my ears are on, he amazes even more. As bombastic as he could be, it's his nuance that make him the best. And I have no problem with bombast, btw.
I do love to listen to guys like Steve Vai every now and then just to be reminded that fingers can move that fast and melodically.
PS I sound more like Joe Walsh. For some reason, his style is easy and natural to my fingers (and slide).

Love,
Todd

There are those who are more "technically sound" I guess you could say(SRV,Clapton etc.) but none of them can match the ferocity and emotion that Hendrix played with. That is why I hate when people cover Hendrix. They could spend all the money in the world to get his gear but they will never EVER play it the way he did. When Slash, Vai and others play Voodoo Chile or Purple Haze, it makes me gag, they really sound cheesey to me.. I'm really not even a fan of SRV's Voodoo Chile cover either.

I to have heard a lot of players try to sound like Jimi (you forgot Robin Trower). I'd rather hear a cover by one of the better ones (like SRV) than hear nothing. But, ya, I wanna hear Jimi.
I must confess that I bought the Hendrix Pedal. I am amazed by what it can do and, at worst, I have a RotoVibe now. But it does feel like cheating so I never bring it with me to jam or play.

Love,
Todd

Jamming on Hendrix tunes is cool, even playing them is cool. For some reason, it doesn't sound like cheese if I'm the one playing them! haha. How is that pedal? I head some good things about it but I saw they discontinued it. The Digitech right?

At the moment my favourite guitar solo would be Sonny Landreth's "Way Past Long" solo. There's some slide work for ya!

Other than that I really like the solo from "Are You Experienced?" from Eric Johnson Live at Austin TX (yes, a Jimi cover  )

You're right! Totally forgot about that one! The solo was incredible. One of the very few good Hendrix covers.

Yes, it's Digitech. It really has some cool features like: in one of it's settings, when you shift up the neck to play the solo, the sound changes. It adds (as I remember, I don't have the pedal here - my son has been using it) the sound from his octavia.

And you have control of some of the paramaters of the RotoVibe and Wah.

And it REALLY sounds like Jimi. (I always played it through one of my '77 Strats.)

Love,
Todd

Just heard about Mitch Mitchell. Last member of the Hendrix Experience. Just passed.
RIP

hmm, hard to pick one so here's my top 5.

#5 - Disconnect, Megadeth
#4 - Mr. Crowley, Ozzy Osbourne
#3 - Tender Surrender, Steve Vai
#2 - Hey Joe, Jimi Hendrix
#1 - All Along The Watchtower, Jimi Hendrix

All Along The Watchtower's solo just sounds perfect to me, what i think a solo should sound like.
