It is no secret that I very much like Duane Allman's solo on In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, on the Fillmore East album. Dicky Bett's solo on that same number is also a very good one, but Duane just takes it to a whole different level.

The Szigeti of the electric guitar.

Cheers - C

Jimmy Page's first fast solo in the live version of Dazed and Confused off of The Song The Remains The Same. I have to stop the car and pull off to the side of the road when that solo hits my iPod...

There are numerous ones I dearly love, mostly by Eric, Duane, or Frank Marino.

But one of my all time favorites is by Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown - it is on the song "Walkin and Talkin" from the album Skin and Bone.

That's easy. The chainsaw solo in Jackyl's Lumberjack. How can you not love a chainsaw solo???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKSJLop26yI&fmt=18

Don't like any of their other stuff, this is a simple, bad blues thing, but I love the idea of a gas-powered cutting utensil as a lead instrument in popular music! Brilliant!

Quite possibly the greatest solo every recorded in the history of the world, now and forever!

My Favorite solo is John Mayer's cover of Wait Until Tomorrow (live) on the Where the Light Is DVD. He completely rips it up it's amazing.

If i had to choose a favorite solo, i'd take the Stairway to Heaven Live solo... Jimmy Page is a monster.

mm I have a few.. my first thought is the intro solo of metallicas song fade to black...
my second thought is the light solo in the guitar arpegios by the middle of the song Master of puppets by metallica too.. and also the intro solo by metallica in the song Welcome Home sanitarium....

:D

Just about anything off of the Allman's Fillmore East, but the solos in these songs are noteworthy in my mind:

La Grange (harmonics heaven!)
Aqualung
Highway Star (Blackmore)
Messin' (Mick Rogers in M.M.Earth Band)

Crazy Train (Randy)
