Do they only put the serial number behind the head stock, or would I be able to find it somewhere else on the guitar, like behind the heel of the neck???

Serial numbers have been put on the back of the headstock, on the front of the headstock, on the back of the neck at the heal, and on the neck plate.

What about an American series from 07? I may have a lead on my guitar that was stolen, but the guy said the number was removed from the back of the stock, I was wondering if it could be somewhere else so I could match it

Doubtful. My Am Series only has the number on the headstock. Not helpful, I'm afraid...

Good luck - C

Were there any other distinguishing marks? certain dings or scratches? plus I would say with 90% certainty that the only reason someone would remove the serial number is because they stole it. I had an MIA stolen almost two years ago, but if I saw it again I would recognize it immediately.

Yeah, if I see it, I'll know it. I dont know if it'll turn into a pissing contest and I'll have to prove it. I think if it is mine, they know they stole it, and there'll be no struggle, Im heading over later tolook.

Wow, good luck! No idea of the circumstances, but I'd take several hefty friends along on a visit like that...

Please let us know how you get on. We'd love to hear a happy ending to this story.

Meanwhile; it is an object lesson to all of us to insert some kind of personal mark inside, say, the pickup cavity or trem block space or some such. Just a tiny dot sticker for example, or a blob of paint. Something nobody would look twice at, but that would identify our guitar to a third party (the police) if needs be. "Mine's the one with a tiny green triangle painted on the underside of the trem claw -" kinda thing.

I'm off to do that (or something similar) right now.

Cheers - C

wont any barcodes or markings inside the body of a guitar correspond with the headstock serial no'. Maybe worth phoning Fender about and explaining a bit about the horrible situation your in.
