Sadly, the serial number will usually only find you the place and approximate date of manufacture. Enter a serial number into this website and you will see how it works:

http://www.guitardaterproject.org/

I sometimes hear of people obtaining model information from serial numbers by enquiring of Fender Customer Services (contact information available elsewhere on this website). But once or twice I have also heard of people getting rather abrupt brush-offs from Customer Services, who perhaps feel they have better things to do with their lives than look up numbers for people who don't even own the guitar in question yet.

But you could give them a try...?

'Course, the other way is simply to give us a link to the Ebay page and folks here can take a look and tell you what they think of your prospective purchase. The only risk with that one is that someone might like what they see so much they start bidding against you!

Good luck - C

Hi: all you've got to do is go to the page at Ebay and then copy the webpage address in the address bar at the top of your browser. Then come to a post here and paste that address in. You'll see it done on threads all over this Forum. Like this, for instance:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0100102857

Cheers - C

Righto. Well I must say I find it visually very attractive indeed - nice color. I can see why you are interested in it. The serial number tells us it was made in 2003 - 04 at the Ensenada factory (as you knew).

So far, the price is nice. I guess it depends on how you feel about those dings and dents: the seller has been scrupulously clear on that stuff. People here have differing opinions on the significance of cracks like that one at the neck pocket. Might indicate underlying damage to the timber, might not. If that crack never gets any worse then in itself I don't think it matters. You'd need to take care not to bash the neck - but then you should be doing that in any case.

Don't know what the pups are on that guitar, given its "Special Edition" status. Likewise, my inexpertise on Mexican guitars means I've not seen that decal on the back of the headstock before, but I'm not aware of any reason to doubt it. Someone else here might know about it...

If you are happy with the little dents and can get it for something near to that price then it's a goer, I'd have thought. If you do buy that guitar would you raise that string tree a little, please? I don't know why but it is set far too low and might conceivably interfere with return to pitch when using the trem (for which, as the seller says, you will need a replacement whammy bar).

And that's all I have to offer. Any help? Please let us know if you win it.

Good luck - C
