Does anyone know if Guitar Center or any other Guitar store on land or on line would have a 'deep' discount on fenders.Last year Guitar Center offered 20% off.Do you think we could get a 20% of deal anywhere this month?

I would think it depends on Fender you no being a Fender Dealer and there (MAP) pricing policy.
MAP = Minimun Advertised Price

I received one of those GC advertisement papers with a couple guitars with "prices too low to print" and guess what...same price it was last month. What a rip. I'll keep an eye out for those recession sales prices.

As I remember it, for the last several years, their "sales" were on them chiefly looking to unload all the trashed, "store whores" at 10% less than the M.A.P. The advertised 'discontinued' stuff at the real bargain prices were never there. As to their "too low to print" prices, they were in fact, the M.A.P. Of equal note is the phenomenon where regardless of which guitar you are interested in, they are adamant that no case or even gig bag is included due to their "lower than everyone else's price". (Again, this was the M.A.P.) Don't even bother wasting your time arguing, regardless of how much readily available verification you have to the contrary as their newest policy is, "no haggle" pricing on everything.

I would think (or at least, hope) that with the economy really in the toilet this year, they'd try to do a bit better.

In the 1960's a new Fender Stratocaster cost $450-$500. Now they cost about $1000 or a little under. A new Chevrolet Impala back then cost about $2000. Now they cost $25-30,000.

Guitars are cheap. Quit moaning over a few bucks this way or that.

Even Gibsons are cheap.

Go shopping for a student model bassoon. $5000 minimum. Want a really good one? $20,000. And they go up from there.

The cost of a product in todays market is based more on the odds of being sued and the cost to defend the lawsuits is included in the sales price. I have to assume there are more lawsuits against automakers than guitar makers. Therefore the disparity in sales price appreciation. IMHO

So driving a bassoon is dangerous?

I'm hoping for this also. Last year I got my EJ strat from Guitar Center online at 20% off. That's pretty significant savings. I couldn't have done it otherwise. This year I'm eyeing protools if I have enough cash and maybe a Hendrix fuzz face if cash is tight.

Also, last year my wife won a raffle for 4 Led Zep CDs, buttons, stickers, and T-Shirt while we were in the local GC.

I personaly beleive driving a bassoon should be outlawed. But I don't want to get to political. 8)

Hello Jesuscares & soggycrow,

I usually get a good chunk of change spent
at the superstores {GC & SA}nice discounts
and tons of folks to rap with. I'm confident
this year the sale day will be a good time again.

Hey Soggycrow I remember back in the late 60's
Bill Cosby had an album cover where he was playing
a bassoon not sure what quality it was. I haven't
thought about that for years. Thanks for the memories. :D

Cheers.
