Hi guys I finally upgraded from a Squier Affinity Strat to a Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster, i just got it today brand new, and have being very dissapointed to experience a lot of fret buzz in the g string, almost in every fret! there is some light fret buzz in the other bass strings, but almost not noticeable and doesn't bothers me, but the fret buzz in the g string in almost every fret really drives me nuts, and it strarts from the first fret, and as you go on each gets worst! what can i do to fix this? i tried making the action a little higher and it didnt seem to help much at all, could it be a truss rod adjusment? and if so what should i do loosen it or tighthen it?

This is really driving me nuts because apart from that the guitar feels awesome.

Hope to hear your comments and suggestions about this

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds to me like your guitar just needs a proper setup. If you bought it from a local shop They should have done a setup on it for you before you took it home.

look at the floating bridge and you see where the G string exits the body right? now on either side of that string you should see a tiny screw with an allen wrench slot (little five sided bugger) raise the string on both sides and presto no more buzz. after doing so check the guitars intonation and adjust the sadle either forwards or backwards until the 12th fret harmonic is equal in sonic character to the 12th fret do this with all your strings making sure to tune after each adjustment.

raising the action higher fixed it now, maybe the action was too low out of the box?, anyway i couldn't get a setup on the guitar because i bought it online, here its kind of hard to get fenders and if there is any they are way more expensive than on the internet.. so anyway the guitar is sounding fine now, it does kind of feel and sound different to the squier!

You're not the only one that happened to. I bought a '72 Tele Thinline. I think it was setup on a Monday, when a worker came in with a hangover, from partying all weekend. Several of the bridges were sitting at a 45 degree angle (on the individual saddles), and the strings were too high. I just pulled out my manual, got the correct settings, then did it myself. This did me just fine, until a year later, when I had a luthier go through the whole guitar and did a complete setup.

Yup after close inspection some of my sadles were at an angle, i fixed that, but the only string that really buzzed was the G, guess its some kind of luck i have with guitars as my Squier buzzes in the 12th fret, and action adjustment and truss rod didn't fix that, so i just got used to it and felt kind of dissapointed that my brand new fender did a similar thing, just that it does it in almost every fret in that string, raising the action fixed it that plugged to the amp you can't hear any buzz but acoustically its there. Guess i will just have to live with it for now! apart from that i really have to say i'm impressed how good the Squier is compared to the Fender! very close in sound to be honest almost can't tell any difference.

another interesting thing, the frets look way more polished in the squier than in this fender, is this normal? its to the point i'm thinking of trying to polish them up a bit. Especially the last frets.

Man, don't get me going. I'm crazy about my strats and this is the only complaint I've ever really had. It seems that every maple neck strat that I've bought new (that would be all 6) always had some residue like varnish or something covering the frets!

Try to get this junk off without damaging the neck is almost impossible.

I see, thats interesting because my Squier is rosewood fretboard and the frets are very shiny, while the Fender is maple and the frets are not shiny at all. Any opinions on this topic??

Right, thats' what I'm getting at. Look very closely at the frets under bright light and you'll see what I mean. Use a heavy guitar pick and see if you can "chip off" some of the residue.

Well it drove me nuts to see how bad the frets looked so this morning i taped off all the fretboard and polished all the frets with mothers aluminum polish that i had around, and man this stuff is miracle it took me about 20 minutes to do this, and now the frets are SHINY they look almost as if they were chrome, i bet they are now as shiny as a fender custom shop
