I want to start this post by thanking everyone for their encouraging words regarding the theft of my much loved strat. As shallow as it may sound, the theft left me with a feeling I can only describe as grief or mourning. People who dont play think Im being melodramatic, but that guitar was the only thing I own that gave me the indescribable joy every time I plugged in. I lost my job back in Jan, then was robbed of my ipod and 12 hour old laptop in Feb, then shattered my ankle chasing the thief. So the 6 months of recovery were spent playing my strat, and now that's gone. But this forum is the one place where people made me feel that I wasn't blowing things out of proportion, and I can never convey how much the emails from you all meant to me. Anyhoo, now that's out of the way; I'm having much difficulty finding work ( I was a professional skydiver for 3 years until a constant dislocating shoulder in free-fall put an end to that, and a car salesman for the other 8 years, which the economy put an end to that), so money is hard to come by. I'm thinking of assembling a strat from various bodies and necks and so on that I find on ebay. Here is my question, so far, the most expensive thing I'm finding are necks. I really loved the american deluxe and standard necks (it's the feel of the rolled edges and fit and finish). I have a good luthier in the area, but are there any aftermarket necks out there that won't cost me as much as a new guitar that are any good? I don't want to put on a MIM neck, i can pick up an American body for relatively short money, and I loved the string locks that came on my Deluxe, and I was thinking of changing out the pup's anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

I think you have much better luck finding a used Strat on eBay or Craigslist.

Mighty Mite make Strat and Tele type necks under license from Fender. You're looking at $100 to $150 depending on specs. Check here, just for example:

http://www.aampselectricguitarstore.com ... index.html

You can sometimes find them considerably cheaper than that on Ebay, too.

Warmoth (.com) will build you a neck. Some would feel that would be higher quality - and it will cost more, too.

Ebay will also find you many genuine Fender necks that have been removed from their bods. But beware of non-Fender necks which have had fake decals added to imitate the real thing. Look at a lot of listings, you'll start to learn the signs. If doubtful, don't buy.

All of that is the tip of the iceberg. Many, many sellers of licensed and not licensed Fender style necks out there. Google is you friend! (As is this Forum.)

Good luck - C

You can purchase a fender american made neck for around 230 if you are lucky :P on ebay and then the rest is easier to find :D
