I'll clarify by saying that the term "shrill" is much more fitting for I'm describing than "spikes". These shrill moments are noticeable to me when I'm trying to blend into the background while our vocalists are singing. I think the uber dynamic nature of this guitar is part of it as well. I did move from Fender Super Bullet 9's to 10's, and I like that much better, the sound is less "tinny". I think when I leave work today I'll drop in and play with a couple compressor pedals. Has anyone used an EQ pedal with their strat?

Ah-ha: a simple case of rolling off the tone control then. And maybe trying the neck pickup behind vocals, perhaps? Could be a nicer sound in conjunction with acoustic guitars in any case.

I wouldn't worry about an EQ pedal till all other options are exhausted. It's just another layer of complexity which you might not need. Do as much as you can with the amp's bass, middle and treble knobs first, wouldn't you think?

(That's all assuming the word "shrill" isn't taking us into the realms of microphonic pickups, that is. But that is very unlikely. Eliminate all other possibilities before thinking about that improbability.)

Keep us posted!

Cheers - C

Yeah, you really want to make 10000% sure exhaust all options with what you have instead of just blinding buying extra crap to throw at the problem, because after all that you'll probably still have that problem.

One other factor, though small: If you happen to be using a Pickboy (super pointy) brand pick, or metal pick, that can make the tone a lot sharper as well. Especially on a setup that is already leaning toward the treble side.
