I know Fender has there own recommendations but what do you all find are the perfect setup measurments for the action, pickup height and truss rod gap?

People are often dismissive about the factory setup specs. But actually I find them pretty much ideal, give or take a turn on a pickup screw. I think those guys at the factory know more than we give them credit for.

Or maybe I'm just Mr Average, far as the fingers goes...

Cheers - C

I agree the Factory setup specs fixed my guitar back to sounding and playing pretty damn good after being messed up by crappy guitar techs that didnt put the time and effort into setting up my guitar after I payed them my hard earned money.

I like my pickups lower than factory setting and my action to taper up for the bass strings. Thats about it for me. Easy to please :D

Personally, I like the truss rod about a quarter-turn tighter. And with a good fret level you can get the action at about 3-4/64" on the treble side (at the 12th fret), and about 4-5/64" on the bass side with no buzzing.... plays like butter.

Keep in mind they're just "recommendations", as a general rule for the masses, or a starting point.

I also find a good factory set up pretty ideal. I don't like action too low though, as it tend to mess up my fingers when I'm trying to bend while I'm playing fast. I'm not sure what that micrometer measurement would be, but it's probably close to factory.

A little fret buzz doesn't bother me on an electric. On an electric bass I usually want a little fret buzz, as Geddy Lee does as well. On an acoustic, I don't like any fret buzz at all.

I find them ideal as well. I set my EC signature strat up with the factory specs when I changed string gauges. They are a great starting point & the only change I made was a very slight adjustment to the bridge saddle heights to fine tune the action.

I like my middle pickup lower than the neck and bridge ones... and also on my other strat I have all three pickups really low almost at pickuard level :P I have my guitars setup differently mainly because of different tonalities... :D I also have my action at different heights some are really low for shredding and some are a little high specially for rhythm and a more bluesy sound :P

Hello Ics1974,

I like my strings a wee bit higher than
what the factory calls out. I'm not a
lightning fast player and I hit 'em hard
sometimes,lots of strumming :D

Cheers.
