Ok, how about this? A five-way switch is still a vintage "feature" to a 27 year old today, although not a stock feature on an exact replica 57 Stratocaster reissue guitar made in 2008? I won't even tell you what I'm contemplating with the second tone control...haha...but interesting on the toothpick idea. I'd heard Buddy Guy say something on that on an interview, but I didn't really think much about it at the time. Maybe one day I'll give the 3 way another shot and play more with finding the sweet spots, but WOW it feels good where it is now.
Congrats on the SB 57 on order! Thats pretty much what I did with mine at my local shop. If you're curious on the wait, what my guitar guy did was contact his sales rep and have him check to see what production was looking like at the time. If I remember, there was one sunburst in stock (you probably just missed it  ), three of the ocean turquoise, and he even told me how far through production the other colors were. Took them about a week to get the call back, but maybe your shop could do that for you, as well? It would be nice to know if you're 2 weeks or 2 months away, I'd imagine. Either way, keep us posted, and I hope you fall in love with yours as fast as I did with mine. OH, and savor the new smell, its better than Thanksgiving dinner :D

Any chance you remember the name of that thred so I can find it easier? Or do you know how far back it is? Now I'm curious...happy with it, but curious.

Hi again, popsbpython. Sorry for the delay: here's a link to that thread about three- and five-way switches:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=14181

That thread has already dropped three pages back! And in it reference is made to yet another earlier thread on the same subject - but I don't think you need to bother to search that one out...

Cheers - C

Hey, I just wanted to thank everybody again for your input and advice on my new guitar. I can honestly say that having other fender nuts here with greater experience than mine has made this one of the most enjoyable guitar buying experiences of my life. Even the constructive criticism has helpped me grow and learn, as well as given me new broader ways to appreciate my guitar; its nice to take such a classic that has earned so much respect from everybody here and really start to make it a part of me and my style, but I guess thats what makes Fender so dear to all of us, its flexibility and diverisity, isn't it?
Sheppardslegion, any word on your order? I can't wait to experience this again through your eyes. Ceri, the more I think of it, the more I'm inclined to think the only thing the 5 way does is make it quicker and easier to get into the out of phase, and I'd imagine the pickups and vintage of the originals had all to do with the out of phase difference, but I still wonder if there might be some micron-of-an-inch difference in switch space that some of your friendly opponents might be finding that the rest of us could not? Hopefully Sheppardslegion will be more patient with the 3 way switch and help us come to a better conclusion. ZZdoc, you are a purist to the time of the reissues, and without people like you we would not have the reissues in the first place, so thank you for your ocntribution. And last but not least Niki, you were totally right; this guitar is a dream player, and I knew it would be, just had no idea how much of one it would be. I stilll love my classic and standard, but the difference in feel to the 57 is remarkable. Plus, having people suggest against going "sight unseen" really added to the suspense of waiting, and lets face it, thats a fun part as it is. To you all and everybody I didn't mention by name, thank you for sharing this with me.,
