Antique furniture people claim that a real expert can tell a lot just by the smell of the wood.

I know a fella who is a (actually the) world expert on handmade paper. He can tell a lot by listening to the crackle a sheet of paper makes as he holds it up and shakes it about. He seems genuinely surprised that the rest of us can't tell a sheet of 1798 Whatman from a piece of 1920s Arches by the sound it makes.

Good grief!

Cheers - C

That's it!!!!

It has the star, the 2 point trem, 2 knobs and pick guard mounted jack!

It has a really flat radius neck, and is really fun to do lots of bending.

His has had a hard life - we went and bought it together out of a free ad paper. we haggled it down to £30, took it home polished it up, replaced the missing bridge saddles and it sounded great!

I seem to recall the pickups are lot more substantial than the usual fender/squier ones.

It was always a bit of a mystery to us...

What can you tell me about it?

Well, mine's had a fairly lucky life, I rescued it from a geek at school who had no interest in it, got it for £100, pristine guitar, books, leads, bag, amp, picks, strap, the lot. I was just getting into guitar at that point & later started working in a guitar repair shop, alot of which I still know to this day. It's been loved in all the right ways with the right polishes & storage, if not that stickers have found it's way onto it over it's life! . it's from the 80's what I can understand, estimated approx 89. E0 neckplate serial Korean made.

The guitar is said to be a cheap student guitar, smaller body, made of Basswood, thinner neck but wider board, with a very nice trem that you can give a fair bit of welly and it takes it on one leg. The pickups are frankly stunning for a Squeir, soulful, mellow but vibrant. Not murky like some of the newer Squiers i've dabbled with. I'll give the chrome it's due aswell, it's not pitted or damaged as of yet, the only thing taking some wear is the 2-pins on the body holding the trem. I've stopped using the trem until i can either fix it, or make my strat-self-build. ;)
