Hi I took my strat into the shop recently here in Canada and the sales person told me that the reason I bought my american strat for 700 CDN back in 96 was because Fender had too many mexican bodies and ran out of mexi necks so they slapped on American ones added american parts and electronics and painted em black or vintage white and sold them as "American standards" is this a True? Fender employees and customers opinion greatly appreciated :)

I've heard and believed lots of these stories, all of em turned out to be untrue. I even fell for it when i bought my 95 in 95.

Not sure. But... butt....

My 94 MIM strat is amazing.

My 98 MIA strat is even better and the love of my life, and the neck grain is better than custom shop grade - super straigher, very symmetrical, solid as hell, and very beautiful.

Well, when buying, that story ought to get you a discount on a guitar!

When selling, that story will cost you money: "I'll only give you X for that guitar because that's a Mexican body."

Running out of necks  that's a good one. All the Ensenada factory would have to do is wait a couple days for a shipment of neck blanks and then roll out a few thousand more guitars ....

I have heard that the Fender Ensenada plant was assembling guitars with parts brought down from Corona in the mid 1990's. Basically, the MIM guitars from that period were USA made/Mexican assembled. I own a 1996 Fender Deluxe Fat Strat MIM that I love, and it rivals MIA Strats that I have played from that year. Who knows????

i think during this time the mexican factory had a fire and had stopped production for a while so you probably just have a fully MIA strat,i could be wrong though

The guitar you're talking about is a California series model. Fender California guitars and basses were manufactured between 1997 and 1999.

The series consisted of Strats and Teles with different pickup configurations and a Precision Bass Special with a P/J pickup configuration and a Jazz Bass neck mounted into a Precision body.
