Well, I finally went out and got myself a Strat. Sold my Aria copy, which was a decent guitar in it's own right, and bought an early Jimmy Vaughan Strat. The previous owner replaced the pickguard with a coffee pearloid one, and the bridge pickup with a gold lace sensor, and gave me the originals as well. I haven't had much time to play yet, other than in his living room, but damn, I love this thing already...

:P

That's actually something I've been thinking about, and haven't decided on yet. Unfortunately, I've never swapped my own pickups, so I'd end up having my tech do it and want to be sure of what I want so that I don't have to pay someone to do the job again if I change my mind. I don't want either of the pickups to go to waste, but the only other guitar I have with single coils is my Tele, and I like the pickups that it has in it. I don't know whether to put the Tex Mex back in, hold onto it for another guitar, or keep the Lace Sensor for another guitar. I suspect that if it had been me, I wouldn't have made the change, and it's a little odd to have a neck pickup that's noticably hotter than the bridge, but I do like the sound of the Lace...

Had a Vaugh that I really liked. Pickups were good and the neck was a joy to play. Enjoy Brother. Mike

I always thought that I'd never buy a black strat, just seemed too plain. The pickguard makes all the difference... Love the look, and the sound. I do think I'm gonna put the original bridge pickup back in, though...
