welcome in the Strat Heaven.

I have made good experience with the Fender Classic Player 60, made in Mexico, designed from the custom shop. Mid price, good quality and a warm sound.

If you have music store near to you, check some guits out to find what you feels good to you like sound, handling ect...and price. So I have started in the beginning in the past.

Good luck :D

The highway 1 (any model) is a very good affordable MIA strat.

Hello, plum and welcome to the forums.

Boy, you don't want much from one post do you? And you have opened up a can of worms!
First thing, in my opinion, if it says Fender - you can't go wrong!
Second, you have to play a bunch of guitars and decide what feels right to you in your price range. Two guitars of the same model will not feel and may not sound the same to you....

Now - this is subject to a lot of discussion and lots of opinions, but as a general rule of thumb, this is how the different strats stack up in ascending order of general quality.

1. Standard made in mexico strat
2. special MIM - (Deluxe player, texas special, classic player, etc)
3. Highway One - which is made in america
4. American Standard
5. Americal Deluxe.

The consensus seems to be that the difference between the MIM and MIA is in the pickups and electronics and hardware quality.

I personally own a 2002 Highway one and adore it.

I hope this helps.

Welcome to the Forum.

You are going to get lots of answers and some may be the same, others will have a different opinion.

My personal recommendation is to go out and play as many as you can in your price range and find the one that YOU like.

Hi, welcome to the Forum.

We could discuss the differences between those models all night long - and have, many times.

You could catch yourself up a little by spending many happy hours looking through the Products pages on this website. On the page of each individual guitar is a button called Specs which will give you a fairly good run down of most of the important features of each instrument.

And on the Resources page you will find a price list, so you can see how much you have to pay for each option. (Though street prices will be lower.)

Come back and ask when you have questions over details. But most important of all is to eventually go and try these guitars in a shop. The most important differences between, say, an American Strat and a Mexican one are the way the neck feels in your hand and the sound the pickups make. Ultimately, you gotta decide on that stuff for yourself.

Good luck - C

Don't get confused. Play all the different guitars in the store within your price range. The one that calls to you should be the one you get. I like my '07 HWY 1 Stratocaster. Grease Bucket circutry reduces noise. Also play SSS and HSS designs to see which you prefer. Try to play on the same or simular equipment you are going to play on.

You could even add a "0" line item for Squier Strats.

Every single level of Strat is a a great deal for the money from 0-5. It all comes down to how much money you got to throw at this, and what you want out of it. Because you are not sure, you might be best off with a number 4 if you can toss out a G-note. If not, though, the MIMs and Hwy 1s are excellent. I have a modified MIM standard that is a fantastic guitar. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi plum - Welcome to the Fender Forums. You never said how much you have to spend or what kind of music you play. Like others I believe the Highway 1 to be a good buy, but the best advice I saw above is to play 'em for yourself.

The other end of this equation is where the sound emanates from, and amps are going to influence tone. Try to audition these guitars through an amp that you either own, or will likely.

Heey plum

I think there`s many good strats, but I bought a Fender Strat American deluxe and I think the guitar is just fantastic.

So I recommend the American deluxe series:)
