Ok, before I get the sharp end, hear me out....
I bought this beauty in 2005. She is chrome w/ a maple neck/fretboard, and the rest of the works etc. I have maybe taken her out and played her a handful of times. The plastic wrap covers are still on the pickguard and the back. She is mint. I have plenty of other guitars to play, I favor my 89 custom Strat w/ vintage noisless. And I have other Fenders. I don't think that sound is the determining factor, but here she sits. In her case in my studio.shock:
I know that we often sell our guitars and regret it later, but I am still mulling this one around, and I'm stuck. Obviously with the economy sucking I could use the bread, but we aren't to that point yet. Should I hold on to her, or sell her?

I would keep it unless you need the money for the family! I can't tell you the stuff I've sold for a few dollars that I could have done without and regret it today! :( Some of the items if nothing else have
gone way up in price or can't be found.
This is a decision for you to make my friend! :? Good luck!! :)

Simple answer, DON"T DO IT!!!!!! You would most likely not get what you paid and even if you did, you will most likely regret it later in life. I know times are tough but unless you absolutely need the money, just don't do it.

I would only if there is a real need. I have had sellers remorse a few times and try to avoid future relapse if possible

If you really need the money only. I track Strats on ebay and right now they are not meeting the reserve price that most sellers are putting on them. If you are curious to what its worth you might try Gruhn's guide to Vintage guitars or the Vintage Guitar price book. I believe the 09 version is now available. I have the 08 and I think without being able to look at it right now that in mint condition they are only $900 to $1100 American.

What would you buy with the money from the sale? Something cooler?
I have a 2005 Lefty American Deluxe and I really like the neck. It gets some sounds I can't get from my 2 '77 Strats (lefties). I like the sound options that gives me. I wouldn't trade my favorite '77 Strat (it's "my baby"). I could be talked into trading my 2005 if something caught my eye - I don't have the same emotional investment in it. (No, I'm not trying to sell it, I'm just giving a for instance.)
If you can cover the sounds with one of your other guitars and have something in mind, get it. Sometimes a new guitar makes you more creative.

Love,
Todd

What does your "gut" say?
Since you are seeking our input, I suggest that you aren't really ready to sell it yet. Bear in mind that it will be difficult to replace if you change your mind later.

My 2 cents . . . don't sell if you don't absolutely have to.

The economy may be sucking, but that doesn't mean that your own personal economy is sucking. If you're fine, then it's not a money issue.

People's tastes change. You may wake up one day and find that this is the guitar you want to play for the next few years. It is a fine musical instrument with a superb reputation.

Don't sell it. Give it away!

Here I am! I don't have a Deluxe and I sure can't afford to buy one right now. Silver with maple fingerboard would do me just perfectly...

But seriously, folks...

Cheers - C

If you do not need the money, keep it.

May I suggest playing it a little more often. If you scuff it a little you may not have be afraid of it so much. It's like if you buy a new car, your always worried it might get a nick in the paint or something. When it does, you drive it more....

If you need money or dont have the space, sell it. If neither of those are an issue I'd keep it. Every time I sold a guitar or amp in the past I have regretted it. I had an 85 watt Peavey Revolution amp and traded it for a Marshall. I like the Marshall alot, but there are certain times or songs I play where I really wish I still had it. Sellers remorse is a terrible thing. :(

I have never regretted selling plain, run of the mill guitars that are easily replaced. I have always regretted selling those unique one-of-a-kind guitars that you will never find even after years of looking. I, like a stupid fool, sold a Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst in the late 80's, and have regretted it ever since. I can't find one used anywhere!!

I must admit that "seller's remorse" is a fair consideration.
I sold one of my '77 strats once. I pouted for a couple of years until I traded a newer Carvin to get it back. (A Craig Chaciquo - sorry about the spelling - model. Orange-red with black hardware. I looked pretty silly playing it but it did play well.)
I never had an attachment to the Carvin so it was easy to let go. The strat was the lesser of two I owned at the time so I thought I wouldn't miss it. I never have really liked the feel of it's neck. But I didn't feel right without it.
So, are you gonna miss the guitar if you let it go?

Love,
Todd

The guitar sits in its case, you're no playing it as it should be played. Sell it to someone who will put it to good use.
