I have a MIM Strat pre-upgrade and an upgrade version. With all the new features on the upgrade does anyone know if the tremolo block will fit in a older pre-uograde? I am really digging the tremolo on the upgrade version has more freely feel to it, if that makes sence. The old blocks are too tight and don't float so much, I quess thats why they upgraded them.

To answer your question, the pre-06 MIMs will take the 06+ blocks just fine. I got one off of eBay for $12 and slapped it into my '04 no problem.

However, I don't think this will address your comment above. Having a larger tremelo block is to provide strurdier foundation for the strings, yielding increased sustain. The block has nothing to do with the amount of float or how "freely" the trem moves. Those things are affected by the number of springs and how the claw is set.

My guess is that you could adjust your current pre-06 to that of the 06+ that you like just by changing the number or springs and/or claw to match that 06+. However, still get the bigger 06+ block anyway.

Dan Erlewine has several excellent books on guitar repair. One of them has a great section on setting up the Stratocaster tremelo. It is highly recommended reading, "Guitar Player repair guide"
