Hey There,
I just bought this strat (the blonde) from a local second hand shop and looking for some info. It has been rodded out with EMG active's and some other wiring but I know the body and neck are original. The Serial number is a E8---- meaning it was made in 1988. It also has a stock, and I stress stock, Kahler Spyder and not a fender model tremolo. Does anybody have a guitar like this? Any idea what they are worth? Or, better yet- any idea how many there are around?

Cheers,
J

Hi there,

very nice strat. Creamy white is my prefered color(dunno the real name). I'm surprised about that "original?" trem. Seems really like a floyd rose, blocking nut and machines on the bridge. Personnaly I don't like this system, but should stay tuned for sure I guess.

But what is strange also is the pickups. Looks like Lace Sensor but without any labels. Are they also stock?

Congrat btw, nice guit :D
Ben.

Thanks,
Yeah, the tremolo is a Kahler Spyder which works almost exactly like a Floyd Rose (depending on which enthusiast you talk to). The pickups, as far as I know, are not original; they are EMG's that have been wired up to be active with an on board battery supply. The wiring and pots have also been upgraded from the Fender original (kinda a bumer if this guitar turns out to be as rare as I think it may be).

I am thinking of swapping them for Lace Sensor hot gold at the neck and middle and a SD Hotrails in the bridge- but I want to get this guitar up and running as it should be before I make that decision.

The neck is also not a modern C- I am not sure what it is but it is a lot thinner then the modern C shape.

No- it does not say anything in either place. The only think I know for sure is that it had to come from the States because Japanese strats stopped running a E serial number at E7-----, as in 1987. Other then that there is nothing identifying about the guitar. I have been in contact with Fender but the rep's have I talked to don't know anything either.

You are incorrect about Fender Japan ending serial numbers at E7XXXXX. I purchased a brand new "72 RI Pink Paisley Stratocaster in 1988 with serial # E8XXXXX. Check out this site for accurate dating info.

According to the Fender Dating page E plus 6 digits means a Japanese Strat from 1984-1987. My serial number starts with E8 and, thus means, it was manufactured in 1988- one year after Japan stopped using E prefix serial numbers.

Hmmm... I do not know where EXXXXXX on MIJ strats ended.
check out some of my post, you can see the guitar Im referring to. I'm in the same situation as you are. I've been to 2 local guitar stores but since they assumed I was there for a trade in, they offered me dirt for my guitar and said its MIJ.

I bought this guitar used for $400 a few days ago. its kinda funny but it came with all the original documents and even the receipt. This was originally bought from Guitar Center in 1989... To top it all off, this Guitar Center still exist and is only 15 minutes from my house. Maybe I should take it there with the receipt and see what they say.

Yup- the only difference between that guitar and mine is that mine is White. The Serial number this is a problem for sure. I also paid about the same for mine (well- 375, lol) but mine is missing most of the lock nut- I have to order the string retainers, washers and screws from Kahler.
