All Fender fans know and love the backwards F in the Fender logo.

But have you noticed how many other logos feature a backwards F?

With the exception of the backwards R in the Toys 'Я' Us logo, I can't think of any other letters that get reversed. Why is the F such a popular letter for reversing? Is this just another of Leo Fender's gifts to the world? :)

What other backwards-F logos have you seen?

The Ruskovites have been doing that trick for ever. For instance, with their famous Lenin brand:

As you very well know - didn't I bump into you in the Hermitage, Russianracehorse?

I've never thought about it as a backward F, more like a lazy-man's version of a cursive F.

Way back when ... I thought the "F" in the Fender logo (both versions, spaghetti and transition/CBS) was backwards and an odd choice for a logo.

Since then, I have seen other uses of it, but I still find it odd.

Your "lazy" explanation is good.

Man after reading this post I am going to be looking for as Ian says wonky F's everywhere. I never put much thought into it but yes I have seen them around

Sorry, I obviously misunderstood this thread before: I thought any backwards looking letters were OK...

Anyway:

That's what I thought, too. Here's the full sheet which that cursive F comes from. Man, some of them are so strange to my eyes that I can only work out what the letter is by looking at where it comes in the alphabet. That capital J, for instance:

Don't think I'll build a brand logo around that one...

Oh, no, I hate to think that your dream of starting Juniper Guitars is coming to an end!

Say it ain't so!

Hahaha! Do you know, I've been casting around for the right name for the world dominating guitar company I'd been thinking of starting. Juniper Guitars - that's the one!

But hold on: it would get called "Ceri's Berries". I'm immediately right back in high school again. No no no. Can't go with that after all...

BTW: Orvilleowner, I'm itching to know what your statistician occupation is - but I'm just too polite to ask. So I won't.

Cheers - C

My occupation is as a Mathematical Statistician.
What else is there to know?

Plenty, I'd have thought. But yours to tell or not - I wouldn't let some nosy foreigner stick his foot in the door...

It's not a backwards "F"--it is a variation of the cursive "F" as Fender's logo is actually a form of script writing that uses cursive letters.

It makes perfect sense to me. And it looks cool.
The Toys R Us logo has an intentional backwards "R" to refer to how kids sometimes write letters backwards--it's supposed to be cute.
