A 2002 Fender Limited Edition ash MIM Stratocaster caught my eye recently. It's in good condition with minor dings and dents and plays great. I was wondering if you guys think I should buy it or not for $400. I'm also welcome to your opinions on this particular guitar.

(By the way I was also considering changing the neck to a Warmoth after getting it. :D )

At that price, if it were mint: buy.

If (as you say) not mint - well, then that depends on how you feel about the dents and dings. I wouldn't; others might.

Cheers - C

If it plays great, why would you want to pay hundreds more for a Warmoth neck (that wouldn't have a Fender logo decal)?

Unless you know of a bargain Warmoth neck ...

Sounds high. It's 6 yrs old and I don't they they sold for much that that brand new 6yrs ago, if at all.

I certainly wouldn't put a warmoth neck on it. That's half the guitar vibe in my opinion. Why bother with a limited edition, then change it? Just get any other strat and change the neck. Or just got with a warmoth altogether. You'll have a limited edition strat that won't really be a limited edition strat anymore. It'll just be another parts guitar. Cool maybe, but not really a full strat - not to me.

Hello TheVelvetElvis,

Pass on it.
You can get a new ash mexico guitar for $449
at guitar center and you can add your own
"history" to it.

Cheers.

Thank you everyone who replied. I decided against it. I'm going to find something else to buy. Thanks for the input! :D

Crazy! I know a guy out here in Tacoma that is selling one for that same price. The more I thought about it, the less I wanted it.

I think i'd rather hot rod a MIM strat for a little more.

I bought mine brand new 2 years ago for $410; they sell new now for $450. As to the Warmoth neck, if the guitar already plays great, I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

(Apart from the obvious exceptions) I'm not so keen on early music. I say, if it ain't baroque, don't fix it.

I wouldn't buy it and change the neck for that kind of money. I would buy a cheaper guitar body just to put on a new neck. Don't get me wrong, I love Warmoth necks, but you can spend less money on a pawn shop Fender or Squire to put that neck on. I spent $300 dollars for my Warmoth neck when my Squire MH III's neck broke. I loved it. But I still had a guitar that had no re-sale value. I ended up trading it in on my Fender HWY 1 Stratocaser ($200 TRADE-IN b/c of the neck) only because the dealer knew the neck was a Warmoth. In the long run I would have been better off just purchacing the Fender Guitar I saw in the shop at the time I bought the neck.

Go for the Bird's Eye Maple and possibly rosewood fret board.

$300+$400 IS $700 Math says to me to get a Fender HWY1 Stratocaster. I love mine.
