Just curious. It ranges from $75 - $150 depending on who does it and how fast you want it in New England.

I do my own, so it's free.

About $50 if you have to pay for one.

I do my own also, but I've done a few favors for friends and now it's at the point where I should be charging and wanted a range from all areas.

If I do just a basic setup for a friend I only charge $25.

That sounds fair and along what I was thinking, but what about a friend of a friend (via word of mouth). :?:

No, if you read the preceding posts, that's what the top area techs get and I wanted feelers for a reasonable charge to do them for others.

I think it's about $50 around here.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone should know how to do their own setups. It's as easy as can be. Some feeler guages, some allen wrenches, a phillips head or two..thats all it takes. Well, that and an ear good enough to hear minute sharps and flats.

The only guitars that are hard for me are the floating, violin style, bridges. They can be hard to intonate.

learn to do it yourself, money spent on set up is money wasted in my opinion... besides its your guitar the guitar tech doesn't know exactly how you like.

I recently when to three luthiers in my area (San Francisco Bay Area).

One charged $65 for a complete setup
Another charged $75 for a complete setup
The last (which I passed up on) charged $90 for a setup. Apparently this last one works on Santana's guitars (he can afford that-for that I'd expect my guitar to be autographed by Santana).

I ended up going to the cheapest one, and he did a great job. He also dressed the frets on one of my guitars. The fret dressing and complete setup was $150 total.
