A friend of mine gave me his 90's Strat. I'm having fun with it but I would like to replace the lipstick pickups with 69 customs. Do I need to get a new pickguard. Or will the 69 customs fit right into the lipstick pickup holes?

 This might seem odd, but baack in 90's at some time, I put lipstick under the pickups to help the welding cool down because I had just put some new pups in my 1978 Strat. Since then, it has been playin' better than ever. 8)

im pretty sure the lipstick pickups are wider than the fender single coils.so you will probly need a new pickguard.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm confused about something however. What does "Charlie" mean?
...'Your friend gave you Charlie'... Does that mean a piece of crap?

"Charlie" was one of Stevie Ray Vaughan's favorite guitars custom made for him, and it had lipstick pickups in it!!

Gosh, I never knew that. I always hear about SRV and "number 1" which was his most used guitar.
I've had a chance to play the lipstick Strat some more. I like the look and the sound is brighter than my Telecaster (Telesonic). I might just keep the sticks for now. Thanks. -T

Tele lipsticks are narrower than strat singlecoils so if their the pickups in your guitar now you will need a new pickguard.
