Hey guys,

I am a long time Fender strat guy. I just bought a Squier Strat for modding. I have a MIA Standard, Powerhouse strat, and a Jimmy Vaughan Strat. This one I am hoping to make into a Clapton Crash Strat. I will eventually replace the neck to a vintage V Maple neck, it has rosewood now. I will change the pups to the vintage noiseless, and hopefully get it painted soon. I just wanted to say kudos to the Squier Strats! I know that some of the pureists here knock the squiers, but if I didn't buy it with the intentions of modding it, this guitar would be great by itself! Granted the body is a tad thinner than the MIM or MIA strats, but the body I have is made from Alder, and the pups, while not the Vintage noiseless pups I want, are fairly good pups. The neck is a nice smooth C shape neck, and although I am not a fan of rosewood fingerboards, it plays nice. Again, I bought this with the soul purpose of turning it into a Clapton tribute strat, so please don't tell me that if I like it the way it is, then don't change it. The fact is, it won't be all changed at one time, the paintjob will be the first since it will probably be the most expensive. I just wanted to tell those here to stop hating on the Squier guitars, they are good....just my 2 cents.

I would have to agree. When you look at their price vs. quality ratio, you can't beat them.

Yeah. My (older) son has a Squire Telecaster. He is interested in guitar so he saved up his money and got his own (even though I let him use some of mine). It's in my guitar room on it's own stand on the wall. He is so proud of it. It plays pretty nice! He lets me use it too! Father and son connection, ye know what I mean? :D

Hopefully I will soon! My son is just over a year old...He loves music and if I have anything to do with it, he will play guitar. :)

Can't really bring myself to paint over a guitar I spent so much money for. That's why I bought the Squier, no regrets for painting it or changing stuff on it.

Its pretty nice for what is considered a "starter guitar" I led worship with it last night and the thing just rocked! Of course, it's not gonna sound like my Jimmy Vaughan Strat that I love, but it holds up quite nicely. I didn't have one tuning problem at all, tuned it before I started and it stayed perfectly in tune the whole night. Let me tell you if you have ever had doubts about a squire, don't! They are great. I am only changing things in it because I want to do a Clapton Crash guitar. It came with a rosewood neck, which the profile is a little thin for me, I like a chunkier neck, but it still plays very well. I plan to get a V shape maple fretboard neck for it, and maybe change the pups to vintage noiseless and have a Clapton Crash paintjob. One thing I don't like is the bridge, I tried the tremelo bar and it is real stiff. I don't use it anyway, but that would be something to check into. All in all, it was worth the money I paid for it!

If it's the thinner squire body you're going to run into problems with bridge/trem upgrades later on. The vintage style trem on it now will match MIM or other import strats as far as screw/string placement which is 2 1/16ths but the depth of the body kills it when it comes to upgrades to more solid block options.
