Hi guys!

Just wondering if it is possiblle to sand a poly neck to give it the vintage look and feel? I have a 93 MIA Strat, a powerhouse strat and a Jimmy Vaughan strat. I want the neck to have the worn in look. Is this possible with poly guitar necks? If so, how do I go about this? will it look fake?

Thanks!

I say do it. I did mine because my sweaty hands were always sticking to the friggin' finish.

Use some very fine sandpaper and pay attention so you'll know when you get down to the wood. Once you do this, in time, it will start to age and get dirty real fast.

I'll think you'll be happy with the results, plus you might notice your neck is alittle faster.

Scotchbrite pads work, but be careful :!:

A worn maple neck is the best neck period.

You should look at everything that guy at RELICDELUXE wrote. How to check the paint quick, rust your hardware, make the headstock and neck 40 years old....insane gang....I tried some of it....and it works.

I sanded the necks of my Powerhouse strat and my 93 MIA strat and they feel great!!! I did just the backs and just a little on the front of each guitar. The necks are faster than they have ever been and it's nice to feel wood instead of the finish. So, question now, should I sand more of the front of the neck and should I follow a pattern or shuold I leave it alone and let it get dark on its own? Will it get darker and worn?

Thanks for the info!

I would only sand down a neck if it is maple. I think the finish adds to the integrity of a mahogany neck and stripping it could introduce twist.

I have done it to my Fernandes and I love it. I too have sweaty hands and I don't like my hands sticking to my neck.

They are all three maple necks. I gotta tell ya, I love the feel of the neck after I have sanded it down. Will I get the worn in look now of the maple or is there something else I need to do?
