Hey, I have a Made in Mexico strat that I got about two years ago. It plays better than some true strats. I want to upgrade the humbucker in it, and I have a few different ideas. I like to play AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne (Randy Rhodes), Zeppelin, and then some heavier stuff like Disturbed.

The two pickups I am probably going to choose between are: Seymour Duncan's '59 humbucker, and the Seymour Duncan JB. I'm looking for a good range of tones, better harmonics, and overall better sound than the stock pickups.

Please tell me what you think, and feal free to mention any other pickups you would suggest.

Dimarzio Super Distortions are good.

I would say the Dimebucker sounds good for metal. No idea what it sounds like, but hey, it MIGHT get you that Pantera sound.

Otherwise, try out maybe the Gibson 500T or maybe even some soapbars in humbucker housings. Trust me, soapbars get HOT.

Here's my "two cents"

The full sized humbucker in my HSS Strat is a DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone and it sounds REALLY good.

The single coil sized humbuckers in it are both DP188 Pro Tracks. I'm very happy with the setup.

(Duncan's are also fantastic pickups I've got 1/4 pounders in my Tele)

I like the harmonic overtones that are easy to get with the Duncan JB (SH4) humbucker. I have one in the bridge position of a '91 MIM Strat.

Uh-oh. You gotta be careful saying things like that around here. There are the hardcore Fender-asti that such words are near heresy...

But -- just between me and you -- I know exactly what you mean...

Haha - well, you've never heard me dissing anyone's Strat at any price point.

But I do like the idea of being a hardcore Fenderasto - where do I join?

A 'true strat' being one made by Leo in 54 - 62?

I think he meant:

True Strat = Made in Corona California by Mexicans employed in the USA as opposed to the Made in Mexico Strats . . . . also made by Mexicans (just employed in Mexico).

Whatever. Fenderistas Rock On!

For your AC/DC & Zeppelin, the 59 might be closer to what you want. Randy Rhodes would be closer to the JB. I have a JB in my LP and I like it a lot. It is very versatile.

Thanks alot for all the advice.

What if I replaced my tone pots with 500k ones, would that give the '59 some more trebal (more of a Randy Rhodes tone)?

Consider, if you will, that the original JB pickup was created by Seymour Duncan for Jeff Beck as a bridge pickup along with what is now known as the Jazz neck pickup, were loaded into a Telecaster.
For a Strat, it takes a pickup like the JB, to get a full tone out of the bridge position. In fact Fender's own DH-1, as used in the American Deluxe Strat HSS, sounds very much like a JB.
Conversely, if you want a more open, vintage sounding humbucker, then the '59 may be the choice. If the '59's output is a issue, you may wish to consider the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 pickup for a higher output version of the '59.
