I prefer standing. My Strat, (or any ax), just feels closer, better, easier to reach and play when it's hanging off my strap. Also I like to be able to move around even though I'm just playing at home. I dunno - it just seems more uhh..fluid.

My 2 cents.

Both ways. I have no problem standing and playing for hours and moving around all over. You just have to make sure you have your guitar positioned so you can still play well standing with it.

I can play about 90% of what I can play (theoretically) when I stand. Flying on the bottom strings above the 12th fret gets a little tight standing with a strap, but you do what you can. If you feel funny in the sound check, then you just play that part on lower frets on the next higher string to accomodate it. You want a comfortable standing position, but you don't want to look like an idiot with the guitar way up to your $@!& either. Having it down by your knees looks equally moronic, expect you can't actually play as well as the high-titters. Unless you're Jimmy Page or an official Ramone, don't try to look cool like that because you won't.

Sitting, I can always playing everything and have better access to the fretboard, so it's "easier" for me to play sitting down, but I love the feeling of standing, moving around, and grooving to the music I'm playing too - so it balances out.

For acoustic, I prefer to sit down. I can play standing, but I'd rather sit if I can.

For public playing or ensemble groups I like to stand, but most of my recording work I sit for. (much easier to reach and tweak the processing stuff I guess). :?

One thing that I have noticed about the Stratocaster is how comfortable it is to play sitting down. Some of my other guitars, I like to play them standing just so they don't pierce into my rib cage.

The problem is, I am always tempted to play sitting down with the Strat, and now I don't play it as well standing up. So now I try to alternate, one day standing one day sitting. What do you guys do in this area? Just wondering.

The secret is in how you fit your strap. Try to fit the strap, so that the guitar remains in the same height when you are seated and when you are standing up.

I prefer to play in the lotus position, while being fanned by naked young ladies with palm fronds on a beach in Java. It never happens, but that is what I prefer!!!!!

That's kinda hard for me. Some people have 6-pack abs, well I have the keg abdomin. My guitar sits in a different place when I sit and when I stand.
