One thing that I have noticed about the Stratocaster is how comfortable it is to play sitting down. Some of my other guitars, I like to play them standing just so they don't pierce into my rib cage.

The problem is, I am always tempted to play sitting down with the Strat, and now I don't play it as well standing up. So now I try to alternate, one day standing one day sitting. What do you guys do in this area? Just wondering.

You can play both ways. I sit or stand...it doesn't matter to me as long as I play. I prefer standing and usually do. What it really comes down to is what you feel like doing at the time you play.

In public I stand,,at home i sit. But your alternate methed is a good idea, I spent a few good years playin acoustic ,, always sitting and when i started playin strats again,, standing was uncomfortable for awhile.

Depends on the day, or sometimes the time of day - I play either way.

Lately, it's been mostly sitting, either on my bed, or my new $10 stool

Lately, I play mostly standing even at home. Sitting down feels "acustic", when I stand up mojo kicks in ;)

Standing.

To be slightly serious: the number of beginners who practice away in that hunched up sitting position and then find it's all a bit different when standing on a stage with a band.

Start as you mean to go on.

I play both sitting and standing so that I don't "forget" how to play standing up. You're right it's a very different feeling. Plus I find that standing up is generally more fun, more "groove ability". Who cares if you aren't on stage at the time. Being able to move while you play is almost as important as being able to play.

Any time I plug in, I always stand...

But if I just want to veg a bit and just noodle, I will play sitting down. I'll hang out with my kids playing video games while I play acoustically with the Strat.

I have two metal plates in my lower back so it's easier for me sitting down. :( I bought a nice drum stool to sit in. I also don't plan on being on stage . I just play around mine or my families houses anyway.

Wow. You're not the only one round here with back problems. But that is dramatic.

Strangely, for me standing is easier than sitting, for lower spine reasons as well as the rest. There was a point at which I was contemplating making myself a balsawood Strat, but things are a little improved from then, at least...
