Hello everyone, I recently wanted to purchase a VG strat at my local guitar center. I wanted the blizzard pearl color but they didn't have it. The salesman then started to describe one he had that had a sienna sunburst finish with a deluxe body style, complete with locking tuners and abalone inlays. I said "are you sure it's a VG strat?" Then he emailed me some pics. The next day i drove there and played it. It was great! Everything I wished the original VG had but didn't :D Needless to say i soon forgot about the blizzard pearl one and brought this one home
Has anybody out there heard of such a model yet? Just wondering. I haven't seen anything on the web yet. Here's some photos to share....

Very nice guitar. I love that color.

It's not listed anywhere - you seem to have a unique guitar on your hands.

Congrats - enjoy.

This is the VG Deluxe. That's the finish it comes in . It should also have a V-neck. It has been announced for some time now but not yet posted in Products. I was thinking of swapping my PRS Hiland for it but 'nikininja'had a stroke over the idea so I shelved it.

Enjoy your new axe.

Wow, that looks great! I want one!
I have the original VG Strat. It's become my main axe. I actually use it a lot for the acoustic sounds. But I would really like to have the S1 switchng and the locking tuners of the Deluxe.
I saw this version guitar advertised in a monthly flyer issued by Guitar Center back in September. I immediately called both the online store and my local store, but neither could figure out what this was or how to find one. I wondered if it really exisited or if Guitar Center just printed the catalog before the product actually existed. I am excited to see your pics and get some confirmation that the guitar actually exists. Now I'm going to try again to find one.
Can you tell me which Guitar Center store you purchased it from?
Thanks, Garrison

Two words: Suh Weeeeet

I love sienna sunburst. I think that is Fender's best finish (currently).
Also, if I may be so bold to ask ... how much did that bad boy set you back?

I found this one in Wichita Kansas. They said they just got it in 2 weeks ago. It does have a V neck, great finish...very comfortable. It doesn't however have an S1 switch. I'm not sure why but I'm so happy with all the tonal options of the Roland side that I haven't missed it. This model was $1899. $150 more than the sunburst VG but in my opinion well worth it! The neck feels so nice and the body has a large radius cut on the underside where the neck adjoins for much easier access to the higher frets. Anyway, I can say I'm truly pleased...gotta go, I've got some jammin' to do :)

Doc, now i see how you could consider such a trade, the abalone dots are really grabbing my attention. Its one luuurvely looking guitar, i'm still sceptical about the electronics of it though. Before i bought the hotrod i considered the line6 option and even found a luthier who would build the system into a better looking guitar (a knopfler clone for me).

You know that you should be yelling at Fender - they are the root cause of these issues   :P

For sure this would have been a choice had they marketed it at the time. I was looking for something different, the VG wasn't available with a V-neck at the time and the Hiland was quite a departure from the classic PRS. A rare maple neck. The CS was asking what I considered an inordinate amount of money for a hard-tail '57 Hotrod in black paint. So I made my choice.

An earlier comment in this thread was to wait on an expectation that the VG electronics would be tweaked. Who knows what's next??

Where do the owners of the new Gilmours go from here? Lord knows we're not all in alain's market and I have to start leaning out my gear with my new home in mind so four guitars is my max.

It's a GAS, isn't it!!

We got the boring old black & white with a rosewood neck.

If this had been avqaioable at the time we would have definately gone for this one.

I suippose that's what Fender calls clever marketing! ! :(

Well, I ordered mine yesterday. My local store manager at the Guitar Center in Reno found one in Chicago and I should have it in a few days. Due to the complete lack of official information on this model at either Fender or the Guitar Center, I am not absolutely sure of what I just bought, but I'll find out soon. The August Guitar Center mailer that first listed this had the price at $1999 and said it had S-1 switching (which I'd really like to have). The part number was listed as 011 7552 531 described as FSR AMERICAN DLX VG STRAT. There is no mention of the neck profile. According to the store manager, it is finished in Aged Cherry Sunburst with a maple neck just like Frantziana's pics show. The price I paid was $1899. I am really looking forward to seeing exactly what it has and doesn't have! For example, on my present VG Strat (the standard one), some of the acoustic models are great and some not so much. I'm hoping that they've improved the firmware and updated the models a bit. I'll be able to do a side-by-side comparison of the two once the new one arrives. More then.

Your price point seems to be consistent with the first post on this thread. I expect that the only change in the guitar is the offering of an upgrade in the finish as well as a new neck option. I don't know that the S1 switching was ever part of the concept for the VG. It certainly would not prevent you from doing an aftermarket swap-out. By this time, nikininja would have this guitar totally reconfigured. :P

I share Caleb's point of view in this having seen Fender move in the direction of my interest both with the Deluxe and the VG only after testing the waters with the original issue. By that time, I had already invested in two other instruments.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Doc
