The serial number of a Fender made in 1962 should be on the neck plate and should start with an L or a 72### to 93### on the neck plate.

Boy, I dunno, what kind of light have you tried? Got a camera with infrared?

Why don't you check the dates on the pots? That should give you an idea of when it was made.

Try ultra-violet. I'd be amazed if that worked - but it would be an extremely useful bit of information if it did! Let us know, won't you?

Have you asked Fender customer relations? Or would that be too easy?

They can't help with vintage pieces.

His best bet is to check for dates on the pickups and pots.

But it seems that he already knows that it's a 1962 (how?) ... so I guess he wants to know the month too.

I meant couldn't they advise on a method of making the ink show up better? It is their ink....

In the 1960's Fender used CTS pots so the first three numbers on the pot will be there manufacter code 137 the next two numbers will be the year and then two more numbers will be the week in the year. If yours was made in 1962 it will look something like this 1376224 ( A CTS pot made in 1962 on the 24th week) Pots made in the 50's were Stackpole's mostly they start with 304 and a single digit for the year and two for the week.
