I changed out my stock bone nut and put a graphtech nut in. I like it but I think the spacing is not exactly correct. The outside strings seem to be maybe 1/32 too far from the edge of the frets.
I'm surprised that so many professional guitarists stay with a bone nut.
I'm interested in knowing what type of nut you think works best w/and w/o a tremolo system?

Earvana. Same properies as graphtech and your guitar tunes up perfectly, any added tone from select materials loses all value when your guitar intonates perfectly. They sound decent tonewise too.

Bone. Not too shrill, not too mushy, but just right.

I've considered one for my Mustang--maybe when the current one wears out...

Tusq. Same benefits as bone, but as sllck as graphite. Easy to work with too.

I guess about the comfort and sound, bone seems the best, but changing the wilkinson by the LSR keeps tuned all the strings even with strong playing with the trem. Very happy with it and the most important, no buzz.

Ben.

Tusq, pre-slotted or blank. Does a fine job and the pre-slotted ones usually only need the smalles tweak to get them right.

But there's just something timeless about a nut made from a bone the dog left in the yard about six months earlier. Timeless - and pretty smelly...

Cheers - C

Edited for a PS: by smelly, I mean when you machine sand that bone to shape. Do it once, you'll never forget than smell! Eeew...

I like Micarta it sound just like bone easy to work with and you don't have to worry about the density. I would like to get a pre ban ivory nut blank that some sell in the U.S. with the paper work and try it.

I've got a brass nut on the YJM, a locking nut on the Floyd Rose MIM, bone on the Custom Shop and graphtech on the Parts-o-caster.
