My friend has a really cool old squier bullet (It has a star on the headstock and a 2 point fulcrum vibrato if anyone knows anything about them?) And you can see the wood joins through the finish on that.

It wouldn't supprise me if the visible wood join is intentional. it iserves to prove the thinness of the finish.

But there is no reason why a timber join should leave any physical trace for the finish to sink into. Doing decent flat joins is really one of the easier bits of the task.

Now the question is whether the production line prepares bodies for paint or stain differently, or if it is just catch as catch can. :?:

I've pondered and pondered this problem and i'm absolutely certain its down to fender wanting the guitar to age sooner. After looking at other vintage reissue guitars today in Pmt i can see a few similarities to my hotrod. These are namely the shine on the forearm contour being slightly duller than the rest of the guitar and body joins being visible through the paint when you tilt the guitar so the light falls across the front. Also i saw on some site 2 candyapple red strats one having a silver undercoat one having gold that both looked different. Mine looks to be a different shade to both of them and appears to be moving towards candycola. No undercoat maybe to let the paint sink into the grain faster?
Mr Bill, I've never played a highway1 but my 57's finish isnt durable at all when compared to the nitro finish on my mahogany strat body. I'd say the 57's finish is fragile.

Hello Nikininja,

I'm thinking it was back in February there was
a member upset with his guitars seam,it was a
black strat {possibly Clapton model}. I'll try
and find that post, but tomorrow.
The train arrives early on wednesday.

Cheers.

The tbx system seems to be very hit and miss with different users. I found it limiting. It could of been implemented a lot better. I've an idea for wiring a passive bass boost on the lower section and a passive treble boost on the top section. Center detent being off. Couple them with the mid boost and it will be like having a built in eq pedal. Looks like my customshop dream is getting more and more expensive.

Niki..the way you fly with these babies ...by the time you're finished you'll have this dream wired up like a Yamaha piano, you'll put a sound card in it, sit back and listen to IT play :!: :P

Doc the truth is i'm never going to own a customshop. Not because i dont want one but because i cant justify having a guitar thats too expensive for me to play. I'm never going to play the albert hall and if my current musical apathy continues i'll probably never play the local church hall again either. My longsuffering fiancee has a childhood dream of owning a Harley davidson and i've just seen a sportster883 in candyapple red for £3750.
How much more custom could you get than matching Hotrod and Harley.

Priorities do enter into life's little luxuries. I too wonder the wisdom of gigging
with a $4K Les Paul or CS Strat. :?

The same thinking goes into gigging with a vintage guitar ... not real wise.

Hello Nikininja,

Here is a link to the post by BentFender on Jan22
http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... &highlight
His second sentence on the opening of the thread
expresses his concern.
We are not alone.

Cheers.

That Powerhouse Strat is MIM, is it not? If so, we've already had a discourse on the assembly of MIM bodies. Niki's guitar is MIA, which gives one pause, and greater expectations. We're talking about a $1500+ piece of gear here.

Given the look of that guitar project supports my earlier comments to him.

Mr Bill, thanks for that link. I'm just not concerned with the joinline now, it shocked me initialy but like Doc says 'just play the guitar'. I'm pretty sure your of the same mind too mate. I may email fender about it just to get a answer to whether its finished that way for a reason. If i get a reply i will be sure to post it.

Thanks All.
