Welcome to the Fender Forum! I totally agree with you. I find that the vintage '50s, '60s and '70s are theperiod that Fender had made the best stratocaster's ever... :) :o

I am satisfied with both my '89 Strat Plus and my new 60th Anniversary American Deluxe HSS. Both have maple boards, locking tuners, roller nuts, etc.. but I have to give a slight edge to the Deluxe for the SCN pups and rolled edges. It just plays like a well broken-in guitar right off the hook, and the bridge hum and S1 wiring lets me get all geeky with my sounds. ANybody that says they don't make them like they used to is full of you-know-what; the neck on the 60th feels, looks and plays so much better than the '89. Not that the older guitar is not as good, but it's a noticeably plain piece of wood and took some getting used to after the matte finish "glossed up" from playing.

I love my sunburst, maple-necked '05 American Series Strat. It was the guitar I always dreamed of having and it only took me 35 years to make my dream come true.

Currently my American Sunburst strat where I took a neck off another American Standard and put it on this body with a set of Custom Shop 60's Relic pickups it the best strat I have played.

Second runner up is the CS 60's Relic with those same custom would pups.

Third is the Rory Gallagher tribute.

The tone out of these guitars is to die for!

Yeah. Being a Tele person, I wish they made it in a Tele shape. Then you couldseriously consider not having more than one guitar on stage...

My strat is my favorite. Its a Fender Strat but I customized it to replicate Dave Murray of Iron Maidens sound. I loaded it with a DP 103 PAF in the neck and a DP100 in the bridge with a stock fender single coil in the middle. This bad $@! is sweet!!! I know why he never let go of this guitar for so many years. And take it from me, Ive played on the Fender Model Dave Murray signature series...not saying anything is wrong with it, but its just more awesomer to have built it your self it gives it its own unique ID.
UP THE IRONS!!!

The best Strat I had ever played was a Highway One HSS that was in the music store in the neighboring town. It played wonderfully and sounded like a gift from God. 'Tis a shame though, I almost wish my Strat sounded like that, but I fear if I mod my Strat I'll lose my tone.

Tone is ALWAYS irreplaceable! After all, no two guitars sound alike.

You can never replace tone.... :( :D 8)
